Is the tee shirt well dry?
« on: October 31, 2012, 03:36:18 PM »
I'm usually busy with my schedule having at least two days backed up. Right now, I've got nothing to separate today. No art to do. Makes me nervous when I got nothing in the "to do" box.  That hasn't happened in a few months. It's true what they say, when it rains it pours.

Seems every time I need to go away for a few days, I get swamped with work. Come back ready to go to work, then sit idle for a few days.  UP...down....UP...down.    ugh. Seems just when I need to fill my bank account, nothing comes in. Sheeesh.  ???

that could be, a lot of people have something else to think about. We were crushed last week, a little less this week, and next week is a little light, but stuff is coming in. We just had a cancellation on 2000 pieces 1/1, black ink on white t's though. The order was to go to the Carribbean, and the freight to get it there in time is almost the cost of the blanks. So, now they aren't in such a rush, if they need them at all, or if they're just lying and found a better deal...

I feel your pain.  We've been busier this year than ever and it's been pretty constant since February, but now it's slowing drastically.  I don't know why I get nervous when it happens every year but i do.  I've just come to expect it and try to take every opportunity to earn what I can when it is busy.  The only thing nice about a little slow down is time for regrouping, maintenance and trying to improve printing techniques.  I just don't want the slow down to last too long.
It's not a job if you love doing it.

LOL!

I first read the subject's meaning  as "Dottonese" for "Is your ink fully cured?" or "Do you pre-heat your shirts to remove moisture?"

It seems like things have slowed a tad but I looked at October's numbers and they are "strong to quite strong".  It's been a busy year with a week here and there that are slower, but our slowest week this year is heavier than our busiest 3 years ago.  I was looking at our yearly numbers and we've already surpassed last years total so I'd love to finish the last 2 months stronger than ever.  December is always slow, you only have a little over 2 weeks to make things happen.  Nobody buys anything from Dec 23rd-Jan 3rd and Thanksgiving week is traditionally slow.

I'd been swamped up to now. The shop I work at seasonally in Daytona is up to their armpits in shirts for the November Turkey Rod Run at the racetrack across the street, so it's nice fill-in when I get a little slow. Got a quickie redo (typo) in the morning, then goof off making some beer and putting a new "baloney skin" on the back of my two-wheeled eyesore.

I've been at it for a long time, and I still see no properly predictable pattern.

Try doing some improvements or upgrades or maintenance you've been putting off.

You'll just get started, and next thing, you'll be busy as heck.

In that same vein,  reclaim some screens that have been kicking around for ages, you'll get a call for a re-run!

There's ALWAYS stuff to do. Slow time is a good time to try different techniques for those doing only simple spot color stuff. Or build a fixture for your press, like Mooseman's pocket platen, instead of waiting 'til you've got an order and need one. Go cut that hole in the wall for your dryer, if you're still gonna go that route, or build the hood over it. By the time your tools are scattered around and there's sawdust all over the place, your inbox will be full of separation jobs.
