Newman pin registartion systems
« on: August 09, 2012, 03:34:32 PM »
Hi everyone,
we have the chance to buy a newman pin registartion system dirt cheap from a shop here in town.

I've watched the videos and i understand how it works, but my question is if it'll work with my press! has anyone ever used one of these with an American Style Auto?

We have an M&M Xpress, and for a moment i thought it would work, but it looks like our rear screen clamps are where we have holes for the pins, not the front.

Anyone have any advice with these?

thanks!

Not fun, but couldn't you MAKE holes in the screen holders to accommodate the system?

The system is designed to work with any press as the part that goes on your pallets has to be installed by newman on the pallet you send them.

If you can get the rest of the system for cheap.. do it! I find its just as good, sometimes better than the tri-loc setup.

Just put the swing arms so they fold out to the rear of the press instead of the front.  Or you could move the rear frame holders to the front?  Maybe that would work and if it does, it would be my first option to try.  I wonder why the holders with the holes cut are in the back?  I don't see why it wouldn't work with the pin arms going to the back instead of the front.

It's a great system, I'd buy it if I were you.  Just make sure it has all the parts and get it before someone else does...maybe me.

i was thinking about putting the swing arms in the rear as well, but don't you line it up to the top part?

i guess we could line it to the bottom...

Ditto!

I just happened to get a bunch of M3's that have the pin system on them so it had me thinking. :)

Can't answer the question regarding American machines but those replies sound right to me.  Have Stretch set it up for your machine.  You'll need to send them a platen and some pictures and measurements for reference I'd imagine.

If you align the swing arms to the bottom, simply flip your films and affix them to the carrier from the bottom.  You'll probably want some shorter and then full size carriers to keep from wasting film and will need to keep those carriers clean.  You will loose a touch of accuracy if you are "dangling" your films off the short carriers as theres some tail whip that can occur when taping down the film to the screens but it can be mitigated by having a religious attention to doing it the same way each time.

You can also gang screens by printing full lengths of film and installing the pin-locks on both sides of the screen.

Pin-Lock is an excellent system.  We use ours for almost every single job, including 1 colors.  We use the short carrier sheets and I cut them down even further, not a fan of film beneath my already milky film.  System works fine with air or manual clamps but you do need to have your o.c. set consistently on each head before clamping screens or it will not be accurate.
