Illustrator CS question
« on: March 19, 2012, 08:30:07 AM »
I have an image im Illustrator CS. I put a jpeg image in Illustrator and traced it and saved my tacing job as an illustrator cs file. When I go to color on on it, I pick my brush and my color but I can not color on the image. My cursor turns into I little black "ghostbuster" icon when I put it onver the image. Why does that happen? It an ai file...so why can't I color on it?!?!?

You do not need brush to color shapes in Illustrator. Just click on the color swatch.
Brush tool is used to draw brushed strokes.

I hope I understood your question right :(

I'm wanting to do some "air brushing" on an image.

You probably don't have any brushes loaded. Window> Brushes, and select one.

For an air brush effect you might want to find a nice brush package somewhere out there.

You have to pick brush library.
Which CS you have, original CS version?

You might be missing files on your hard drive.

Hey Mark, a quick tutorial on illy basics might be in order for ya.  You need to get your brushes pallet out and load up some brushes, select one and then use it with the brush tool.  I know it's a little weird but Illy needs to have them loaded into the document to make use of them.  If you actually have no brushes, go get the system ones first as they cover the basics - calligraphic, ink, etc.  and then maybe fetch some more online, there are tons of free ones and some very classy ones you can purchase.

I found something...use pencil tool...set at about a 5pt stroke...effect/blur/gaussian blur....set it about 5 and it blurs your line pretty good,,,good air brush look.
