Haven't they gone digital now?

Slowly. Some chains here are installing the digital projectors, as 35 mm replacements, but none of the truly high end (70 mm and Imax and such)

I understand that many chains are proceeding slowly because, the initial examples were not especially well received, the cost is three times as much as traditional, with a life expectancy of 5-10 years as opposed to 30-40 years.

Now, to sneak back on topic, are there still any projection speed stencils and light sources commonly in use?

That rug really tied the room together, did it not?

Worked at a theater in the hinterlands of Buffalo, MN back in the '80's.
Plus I looked like a real player when I bought dates to the movies there and walked past the line and got in for free and free concessions!
What are the Heights events ?
50% of the time I'm 100% right.

Heights theatre... about 40th and Central Ave. in NE MPLS.

--They do organ music along with silent film.
--Sound of Music sing-a-long.
--God father week.
--The occasional art film

Anyway... back to exposure units.
I've got my eye on a 1000W metal halide to replace the three 400W metal halides I'm currently using.

Good idea to change. Those three bulbs may well speed things up but may also give you problems as they negate the single point advantage. See squeezee's explanation and illustrations

I'd even settle for just one 400 if the 1000 doesn't come through.

Thanks for all the comments. Pretty sure I am going with either a Amerigraph or Nuarc.

Here is one difference to consider. If you buy the Nuarc and are not 100% happy with the unit for any reason you can return it for a a full refund. I do have to forewarn you though. We don't have any that have came back! LOL!

Violux is a good option too, I've had a couple, still use a 5K now. If you go NuArc, check the pricing on parts replacements. In the olden days, say the 80's, before their current affiliation, they were major ripoffs on parts. I had to replace a timer in a process camera, and they wanted $250 for it, I bought it from ATC (the manufacturer) for $50.00. Those are 1980's dollars by the way...
