halftone % quaestion

I do artwork seps for my father in law. I can do halftones with the normal 22.5 and whatever else i have it set at.
My question is the previous artists he worked with just said tell them the percentages, like 10% and 20% for example and whola! they halftones it to what he wanted..
I'm not awesome at this but what does that mean? and how do I go about doing that?
hopefully someone understands what I am talking about.
Thanks
Rob

what format is the art in? halftones are a percentage of color, so the 10% or 20% is the percentage he wants of that color. Does he do his own films?

in
channels,
select the area you want to be a halftone.
Using
levels,
drag the "output levels" bar to the right
you can see the percentage in the
info
pallet

Scott's examples are on target if using Photoshop. What program are you using?

While on this can I ask a question here...everyone is using 22.5 angle on all plates I,ve used it allso, but for some reason I did a set of films, I forget if was a black plate or whitebase plate with halftones and the 22.5 would not work. It was morie city, so I change that plate angle to 56 and it work just fine, have any of you every had this problem using all plates at 22.5?

Depends on your mesh size & tension, sometimes it just happens.

thanks guys...He sends me crappy jpegs. LOL
I use photoshop and illy.. To tell the truth when he burns a screen he can't get real fine halftones. Its just not what he does.
What I did in the past for him was just change the artwork into gray scale then brighten it and change the angles on the halftones.
Thenk you for showing me the %..
I use mostly illy and have a ways to go in photoshop.

If your screen mesh is at 90degrees to the frame 22.5 will work fine, also have been using 37 for C,,82 for M, 7 for Y and 52 for K for years for process and have never had any problems with Murry, Morry, or their brother Moire. lol
