Appropos of nothing, an (older) musical break
« on: September 03, 2016, 01:13:45 PM »
It's been Procul Harum for the last few days here at the pond.
Today, I'm up to their third album, A Salty Dog
Not everyone's cup of tea, but hey, it's from the Frog, what do you expect?
It's the Bach influenced organ of Matthew Fisher and the strong vocals of Gary Brooker that grabbed me hard back in the day.
This was still a few years before Robin Trower went full-blown Hendrixesgue, eventually on his own.
btw, their fifth album, Broken Barricades even went as far as to including a tribute to Jimi.
Interestingly, their one big hit, A Whiter Shade of Pale was cut before Robin Trower was even in the band.
That rug really tied the room together, did it not?

Ah Whiter shade of Pale is one of the best classics in my mind.

Interesting I never knew Trower was a member of the Procol.

I played that first album to death, a particular favorite was the instrumental Repent Walpurgis...
