Guarantee parts - ;shipping costs
« on: August 02, 2016, 03:05:31 PM »
I recently bought a machine (I don't want to go into details) and after about 3 months the bearing on the main motor gave trouble, I was air freighted a replacement motor at not cost but the supplier
wants me to pay the shipping costs.
I maintain that a motor shouldn't give trouble after 3 months and I shouldn't have to pay for shipping.
What's the norm?    Anyone have any experience with this?

Is there any written warranty?

Unfortunately, most of the things I get replaced on warranty require me to eat the return shipping of the bad unit. Are you also returning the bad one?
That rug really tied the room together, did it not?

Different companies have different policies but it is pretty standard to have to pay up front for warranty items being shipped to you, then getting a refund when you ship the item back to them.

Some companies (a lot, if not most) make you pay the return shipping, and some will issue a call tag on their account.

I personally wouldn't complain about paying shipping to me if they aren't requiring you to put up a deposit for the new part until they get the old one back.

Sounds like info is missed here. Is the machine brand new? Or used then you bought it? Refurbish? More info.

New machine, I don't have to return the motor.     They could hear the faulty bearing on the phone.
The part was airfreighted from China to Israel at a cost of $300.

I had a drive assembly disintegrate one month after warranty expired. I had pictures and description if what happened. Completely unheard of by the machine manufacturer. Had never happened before. The manufacturer had the new drive to my shop by 10:00 AM the next day. They would have sent a tech to install, but we all decided I could do that myself, even though they never had to replace one in the field before. Machine up and running again by noon. Not a penny out of my pocket, even though the machine was out of warranty by a month. I guess every company is different. Or maybe times have just changed.

First question stands- any written warranty?
Covers, parts, labor, freight?
