Help identifying and valuing large screen printing system
« on: July 31, 2016, 11:07:14 PM »
Hi, I was hoping for some help identifying what exactly I have, and if someone could place a value on the entire thing and the parts themselves.  I bought a large commercial auction and this system was a part of it.  It all functions, the vac pump, the power supply (220v), and light.  I've wanted to learn how to silkscreen for years, mainly dials and car gauges and so forth, but this system looks like well beyond my scope.  I just found this site and am excited to start reading the forums.  I'm thinking of selling it (or parts I don't need or are too big for what I want to do) once I know how to price it then hopefully with the help of those in the forums I can be educated on what I need.

The table is approx 4'x6', has glass on the one side and tilts 180 degrees.  The vac pump mounts on the bottom of the frame which has high quality  wheels, vac gauges, etc.  The power supply weighs about 100# (guessing, it is HEAVY), all cords and plugs are there too.   I understand equipment for shirts and such is much smaller, what is this one used for?

The vacuum frame like you have will probably fetch 500 to 750, maybe more depending on where you are located and the condition of the glass and blanket. The olec light source I see usually between 750 and 1250 depending on the condition of the bulb and reflector.

These were probably used for sign printing originally, but are great to have for shirts and posters too since you can expose multiple frames at once and that light is really a high quality unit.

Mimosa is correct, but please note the value is only going to be to people in your immediate area. The vacuum frame is a pain to ship/freight across the country (i've done it), and is really only desirable to a very small percentage of shops.

Thank you.  I am in Boise Idaho.  I surprised by the views and responses already!  Is this a pretty hard process and expensive for materials?  From the amount of traffic in just an hour here it sounds like this is the best place to list it for sale.  Like I mentioned I've always wanted to redo gauges for car restoration but this is going to be so overkill for that.  But if it doesnt matter and cost more materials to run then would it work fine?

We are a small but active group of people, and I would confidently say the best place for accurate knowledge and abundant and varied experience in the industry. As for listing it for sale, you will honestly probably have better luck using digitsmith.com and craigslist than here, but the more places you list it the better I would think.

i think what you have has more value than stated to the right operation.. allover printer, belt printer?  digitsmith would be your best bet in addition to TSB..

The pricing I gave is based on years of literally looking everyday on digitsmith and craigslist for stuff like this. You'll see them listed for more, but usually they sell for right in that range. Him being in the middle of nowhere, relatively speaking, could mean he can get a lot more or it could mean he will have to go really low if no one is interested near him and he is "competing" with other listing that won't cost as much to ship to a buyer.

Prices on these behemoths as well as old dryers vary greatly with just how much spare space the seller has.

I found some years back, with the increase in vinyl and digital, there were a lot of these from sign shops that just didn't have the screen print business any more.
That said, many shirt shops liked them for multiple screen exposure and the occasional odd-ball big screen job they might do (like Mimosa)
That rug really tied the room together, did it not?

Mim's got a great point--the price depends greatly on where an interested buyer may be.

But IMHO, if I were you, I wouldn't be selling that if I were planning on getting into printing....

I have pretty much thee exact same units and LOVE them.  They are usually overkill in a sense, but getting rid of them wouldn't make a lot of sense unless you just dont have room for them as you will spend a lot more on downgrades.
