« on: March 29, 2016, 09:19:06 AM »
Trying to get multiple shades on attached design for our
8 Color Sportsman. Trying to keep to 4-5 colors.

--Plastisol, Plastisol Only--

Navy shirt
Head
1) White UB- Halftoned to let blue and white shade differently
2) Flash
3) Cool or smoothing screen
4) Blue - making Dark and light shades
5) Orange - halftone
6) Flash
7) Cool
#) Black
Trying to keep from Top white or if you see fit - Blurt it out.  :)

Thanks for help Guys,

I would definitely go with two spot colors on the orange.  You can get away with one blue I think.  Brings you to 5 colors.

1) Black
2) White
3) Flash
4) Grey
5) Blue
6) Orange
7) Flash
8) Highlite White

Or, remove grey and put a cooldown after last flash.

I happen to be partial to a nice clean white.

for 5, I would do Black, White, flash, blue, gray, orange; orange last to keep the halftone it's cleanest...

1 black
2 gray ubase (halftoned for the blue ink)
3 flash
4 cooldown (since you say you need it)
5 blue
6 orange1 (it will look better than halftoning it, but if you are trying to keep the color count down you could skip it)
7 orange2
8 Highwhite

Yes, we've won our share of awards, and yes, I've tested stuff and read the scientific papers, but ultimately take everything I say with more than just a grain of salt! So if you are looking for trouble, just do as I say or even better, do something I said years ago!

1 ) Black
2 ) Base
3 ) Flash
4 ) Light Blue
5 ) Light Orange
6 ) White
7 ) Flash
8 ) Transparent Black (overprints Orange, White, Light Blue) to give you 3 more "Spot Colors"

Like super based out black, probably 2 percent pigment to transparent base.   I'd do that because I hate mixing halftones and spot colors to make up shading.

I don't have a photo of the print, but we did this in 2012 where we printed 6 colors, and got "10 colors" since each light color had a dark shaded "spot color".  Has to be the right instance for the art, but this looks like one, although I think we are seeing partial of the image.

Thanks,

'not sure I get the question, so let me rephrase. . .
use Cool Gray 3 to underbase the whole image. Some of it will be halftoned (blue area) rest will be 100%. Then print the white on top of the gray ubase where you need to have white. This will create two distinct shades in the light part of the tail. The orange part, I'd probably ubase at 100%, print solid orange and then halftone white over it (if you are trying to reduce the color count). Two oranges would make it look much better though.

Yes that exact question answered. Gray UB with halftones.
Will give it a try with one of these methods.

Thanks Much Crew!
