I believe the 'fuel cost adjustment' on our dumpster service has actually gone up during the last 12 months.  Kind of like twisting the knife don't cha know!

I get what everybody means, but how many of us pass on t-shirt supplier sales prices to customers?
On the lowly printers end it's only a dime, so a little more justified I guess.

Most of the chems we use JUMP drastically and immediately when crude goes up. Do they ever DROP down in the same way? No, they eeeeeeease down a little at a time, barely inching downward if at all. I remember when paint, reducers, and catalysts went crazy during the oil boom. It wasn't "linear" by any means, but the relationship was unmistakable. Has any of that stuff gone down significatly?  Nooooo.....

I don't know what the percentage of the cost of doing business FUEL is... for UPS, FedEx, USPS or the airlines in general, but they are paying half of what it was.

And yeah. When we get a significant break on blanks, we pass it along.

I'm tired of the feeling I'm getting nailed in every direction I turn. We don't do that.

In the end, it seems like the little guy gets stuck most often. At least thats how it feels to me.

Now try being in the heart of that economy and having the same thing.

So income all around is WAY down and everyone is still trying to rape you left and right over prices that have been LONG gone!

For the record, we do pass sale prices to the customers on basic t-shirts.  We supply 5250's for "basic t-shirt" prices because they are pretty much always on sale for prices close enough.

From an ink manufacturer's perspective it takes a long time for lower fuel prices to have an affect on raw materials.  Saving 10-20% on fuel may only equate to a few dollars in a shipment worth thousands of dollars.  Those companies that are directly affected by fuel (airlines, shipping companies) are in a boom right now with the additional savings, but it will slowly change as competition creeps back in. 

You also have to remember that even though oil is down, a lot of other things are up such as wages, insurance, electricity, etc.  Any savings in fuel can be wiped out by those increases.

Not trying to justify, just give a different perspective.

I think that the point is that though it takes a long time for lower oil prices to bring about lower prices at the end of the manufacturing cycle, the same can't be said about the effect of rises in oil prices.

try living north of the border , anything I,m bringing up is at least 50% more than list, Thats 50% more than a year ago Ughh ,  I'm getting letters or salesman warnings every week of price increase for anything made or supplied in the States.
Also my equipment salesman says that M&R has some great prices on sportsman 12 and 14 colour but even still there just not in the budget anymore.

So if you guys could leave your cars running at night to burn more that would be greatly appreciated

try living north of the border , anything I,m bringing up is at least 50% more than list, Thats 50% more than a year ago Ughh ,  I'm getting letters or salesman warnings every week of price increase for anything made or supplied in the States.

I know no one here is going to feel sorry for me in the least bit, but I have been screen printing part time on the side for the last year, and working full time offshore on a drill ship for the last 16 years.  Got laid off three days ago, was making killer money out there, enough that i was able to buy and auto and a nice dryer before i got the Ax.  I saw this coming and prepared as much as i could for a different career.  What is awesome is I couldn't approach businesses for contract work with my 4 week rotation schedule before.  After I got laid off I emailed two of the local promotional companies and it is looking very favorable to be getting some work from both.  I have enough money saved up to last about a year so this is just the perfect scenario for me to get into this business.  I was too big a chicken to just quit and go for it, plus i got a great severance.

   As far as pricing of materials going down, consider it this way.  Oil goes up which drives up the cost of literally everything, because everything must be shipped.  Once those prices inflate, they often over inflate to raise returns for shareholders.  And if there is anything i learned working for Transocean for 16 years it is that they don't care about workers one bit, they only care about their shareholders.  Pretty sure this is the same with all big corporate business, I imagine the way they all look at the decrease in cost is more profit for shareholders, I doubt any of them are thinking "oh lets pass these savings to our customers"

this is *EXACTLY* why I started my exit from corporate america several years back, after watching the execs get richer and richer with nothing but longer hours in return, I decided I didn't want to participate in it anymore...

of course, I'm still involved there, but no where near like I was 3 years ago, and I can make my mind up pretty much as to what i want to do and when.
