Decorating rain jackets? Need help . . .
« on: December 14, 2015, 10:19:25 AM »
Our biggest customer needs some rain jackets delivered to their customer in the next week or so. We looked at what they wanted and could not find a way to decorate it that would take the abuse dished out by the dock workers.

Can anybody here provide a decorating method that will be durable? Also we need the jacket recommendation to do this on.

We are willing to send this whole job out, it's 550 jackets.

Any help getting this done would be appreciated.

Yes, we've won our share of awards, and yes, I've tested stuff and read the scientific papers, but ultimately take everything I say with more than just a grain of salt! So if you are looking for trouble, just do as I say or even better, do something I said years ago!

here's the jacket they are thinking of using
http://www.sanmar.com/sanmar-servlets/CatalogSearch?id=6602112&prodimage=&swatch=Safety%20Yellow/Black&top=Y

it was originally something else, but they are out of stock on the other model.

we're printing like 50 of these this week... same EXACT jacket.

I tested Wilflex Performance White Ink on the black surfaces, and wash tests and stretch tests were fine.. plus it passes the fingernail test as well...

I'll be doing some tests on the safety yellow section later today... I'll post back results when I have them.

According to the sanmar info section, just follow the 'rules' for poly printing.

I just heat pressed some of these jackets the other week. Would that be an option?

We did some rain jackets awhile back and we used Nazdar inks air dry, what are these jackets made of?

We've printed them with plastisol with a low-cure additive, and then also heat pressed reflective 3M striping.

They're not fun. They don't want to lay flat or smooth out, and they're slicker than snot. Getting the
pallet into the zippered port pocket is an exercise in humility as well.

Like you, we only did them because a good client asked. Luckily it was only 100 pieces or so, and only 1 reject,
which was actually the first one used for testing.

we've done a ton of these over the years for an ambulance service and we use Nazdar vinyl ink.  I'll have to pull the number, we print black ink on them, it is durable as heck.

I got a couple of ppl suggesting the ELT ink from One Stroke. We'll give that a try.

Sanmar said screenprinting is OK, but has to stay below 300 degrees and that there is a PU coating on them which tends to cause issues.

thanx for the input! No way I'd have time to get this done without the help!

Pierre we use Nazdar VF series vinyl inks through a 230 screen mesh, the carmine red we used was a little weak so we run them under the IR flash for a sec and hit a second print....I would think heat will be your biggest enemy running them down the dryer low temp and Roll Dude!

yup, that's our backup option if the ELT does not work out!

the ELT can look a little charcoalish, at least it did on red.  see if you can add some pigment if needed.
