Anyone got experience in rebuilding Index Cylinder
« on: May 11, 2015, 11:01:04 AM »
I have a 01 Gauntlet RS and the index cylinder is leaking air around the shaft in the return position. I was wanting to know if anyone here has rebuilt one and could give me any idea as to how long it takes. I was debating buying a new one and rebuild this one for a backup. I might even rebuild it and rent it out to anyone who has to the same problem someday.

I have no clue about the specific piece of equipment you have but there are bunches of places to get pneumatic cylinders rebuilt or simply buy rebuild kits, get instructions etc. Not sure this is any help to you ..just taking a shot ::)

Get a new one and a rebuild kit. You don't know what you will find when you open it up, it might be beyond repair. Rebuild it and put it on the shelf if it's servicable.
Put a little straight weight 10w oil on the shaft when it's extended, sometimes it just needs a little to help seal it until you can replace it.

I did it a few years ago, M&R started selling a different cylinder so they had a seal kit for a newer cylinder, had to go 3rd party to find a seal kit.

SK-100-400 was the # I needed for a very similar press, it's easy to find the x-ref lists online to double check.

Not a tough job, but not quite what I would call 'cake' either....
