Introducing myself ... I screen print for pure fun and as a hobby.  Because I have a day job that I also enjoy that is not even remotely connect to printing.

I pick up a few odd jobs, but mainly I print for my enjoyment and people I know.  Been printing about 6 months now, and I am scheduled to take a 4 day class in a couple of weeks.  (Can not wait!!!)

Ironically I have an isukgolf website (again just for fun and to learn), thought I would learn to print shirts for that site ... and I have yet to really print any shirts for that endeavor ...

Anyway a brief about me ... just here to learn and enjoy ...

You'll probably find some great help here, but don't be surprised to hear some hobbyist ideas derided as our folks are often as honest and straightforward as they are friendly and helpful.

I suggest a stop by Newbies with some specific questions along with some specifics about what you have done so far, and with what you have done it.

Yeah, diy is sometimes a topic, but if there is a simple commercial way to do it, that's what usually gets recommended over trying to engineer it yourself. There are many places to get advice and this is the one that I pretty much trust completely. Regarding the honesty part, after doing something for a living for years and knowing how something works makes it frustrating when you read posts that give wrong info because the 'advisor' got a few underexposed screens that were ok for a few three shirt runs, cured by a diy flash made out of an upside down hotplate. That doesn't apply here, but there are many poor sources of info on the net.

On the other hand, there are many things that I feel like I couldn't do without, but are either difficult or expensive for a hobbyist to do. One of my most difficult lessons at first was, just because I read how to do something correctly, doesn't mean it will work perfectly the first time.

Welcome!  You have definitely found THE PLACE when it comes to talking to other screen printers who are talented, experienced, and above all generous with their knowledge.  You'll be happy you're here

I am probably one of the more diy friendly posters as the majority of my shop is homebuilt, though I am now a full time printer.  That said, everyone here is awesome, and if anyone tells you something is a bad idea or there is a better way, they do so in a helpful way based on their experience and not just to be superior.  I have yet to feel like I was being talked down to or had an idea shot down "just because", and have learned TONS in the process.
