the F1 button the the red chili is where you can turn up or down the intensity

Are you talking about OF1, FO, FL ...... dial. Not sure what you mean by the F1 button.

Murphy37

here is a pic of the controls on our red chili. the F1 button on ours is what changes the intensity.

So I think the temp control was added to smaller size Chilli's starting with the 20x24 I ordered.  I really wanted to go M&R but really needed that temp control, which was not available on the 20x24 at the time.  Rich saw the post here and made it happen, I guess the option was there on larger models already.  The rep that sold us ours says it goes on almost all of the Chili's now.

Off topic a little but ours fires up with a Tacana D program, is that normal?

We have no intensity control on our quartz flashes, so we turn the flash time down and raise the flash up an inch or so.

I do this too, but we still have problems. Seems if we could turn down bulb intensity it would be best. Calling m&r tomorrow. Thanks to all:)

Same as we have. I think they added this control to the newer units around 2011-2012.
