Helping some future owners of my auto press with freight estimates. Looking for names of freight companies.
Thanks

This will depend a lot on where you are and what your exact needs are. Many freight companies are regional (multi-state) and have agreements with other regional carriers. There are also different tiers of service, support, liability, etc. You pay more, you get more (usually). For budget carriers, I have been relatively happy using a company here in the South called Southeastern Freight Lines, but they are a lower tier company, meaning they only insure up to $5000 regardless of what you are shipping. They also have limited access to things like liftgates at certain docks, so if your shop doesnt have a standard dock, you will have a hell of a time getting stuff off the truck without renting a forklift. Usually shipping companies will gladly bid for your service if you tell them you are shopping around, but read reviews (if possible). I hope some suppliers chime in here, cause finding a quality freight company that doesn't cost a ton can be a bitch.

Go to freightquote.com - it's free & easy to open an account. Once you're set-up, you fill in all the particulars and they come back with a bunch of quotes from known, reliable carriers. We've been using them for about eight years for both full load & LTL shipments.

Where are you located?
I have had good luck with regional carriers. Also I have used Uship.com(no we weren't on TV) with success if I have to bring things in from either coast.

Uship is great if you are looking for a bargain BUT make sure you don't have Central Transport shipping your goods! Trust me on that one! Also be sure to buy insurance because carriers are only responsible for 10 cents a pound if they destroy your stuff!

The press is located in Massachusetts. I am doing some hand holding, trying to move things along. The buyer would be responsible for the freight...Today the lucky destinations are NJ, GA and FL. Thanks.

I'll second that insurance... I'm sitting on a 2012 swf that is a total loss due to damage in shipping.

When I get stock orders from Richmond Hill NY we use Old Dominion and Direct Coast to Coast.
