Title: Emb digitizing services. Of those you've tried, who is consistent?
Post by: Dottonedan on August 13, 2013, 10:33:40 AM
I am not searching out a new digitizer myself, but often get emailed every day from people offering a digitizing service. Those prices range from $2.95, $5, 10 and on up to $65.00

How do we know who's safe to use and will not be sending you something back that is all messed up?
I figured we should post some experiences or recommendations on some of the ones you've used.

I'd like to create a (resource list) of these service providers and maybe even a rating of sorts.

well i guess this is where i have gonna against my personal feelings and went straight at it from a money point of view.  We use excellent punch.  yes they are from pakistan and yes it is very cheap.  but it did  cut our digitizing cost from $500 or more a month to less than $100.  most of the design are 5-7 dollars.  very good embroidery as well.   they will do free sample if needed.

After a lot of hit and miss, I discovered that if I stuck with who ever the embroiderer uses, I got the best results....So now I just sent the artwork to whatever embroiderer I am using and leave it in their hands...It has been working well, although not always the lowest cost....

I have used artworksource a good amount.  The changes I will make are just to increase density of the designs but they are usually done pretty well.

I basically have to use someone that will give me a PXF file so I can make any changes I need to at all.  I don't bother them with the changes when I can make them myself since I do have a high level of the Tajima software.  I also have to do all the laser digitizing and sequencing.

I am interested in finding a better service but I do like how it is all done through the website easily (upload art, include all the instructions nicely).

This is really the best way to do it. Since the different machines sew differently, very differently in some cases so going with a generic digitizer can be a headache and get different results. Before we brought embroidery in house fully I tried several digitizers and would run into that from time to time. It can really make a difference from one shop that uses a nicer machine to a shop that uses Chinese knockoff.

All in house for us. We have many machines/different brands and need to tweak on the fly

We do all our own as nearly every one we tired almost always needs tweaked in one way or another for production so you'd need to know how to do that or you'd be waiting days to get a good file at times from the back and forth, keep in mind MOST of these digitizing deals don't even do embroidery or have much of any embroidery background.  There are good ones out there I am sure though.

Best one we ever had was Top Sail, but they also were at the time anyway well higher than most.

We Do ours in house. 2 full time employees. We really only do contract work 25 years plus. When our customers use us to make the tape we get approval on first sew out we provided them.
If our customer uses one of their cheap digitizers and provide the tape, usually takes a few sew-outs and a bunch of going back and forth wasting time and more money for sew outs. Some people don't get it.
We typically charge 45$ for under 20k stitches with sew outs on material close to what job is being run (that's the important part) every material sews different.  I would use whoever is doing the embroidery job

Jason, it is gratifying to see that you are both using your own services as well as being satisfied with them. Some however, may argue that a true artist or craftsman is never satisfied with their own work, and always strives to improve.

Just sayin'

We have been using Artwork Source for about 2 years now. Very happy with their product. They are very consistent, only once in a while do we have to get something revised. The best thing about them is their website is very easy to use. You just upload your file and it comes back in a matter of hours. Calling them is not a problem, its very easy to talk to someone up there.

We jump back and forth between Artwork Source and QualityPunch.  QualityPunch usually does a better job with caps and really small lettering.  But Artwork Source you can actually talk directly to Cory.  Both have easy to use, easy to navigate websites.
