Title: another gauntlet question (indexer)
Post by: ericheartsu on July 18, 2013, 05:31:13 PM
So our gauntlet has a leak in our moiser drive. I'm working with Bill on getting a new one, but for the time being it still runs, but lately it's started indexing hard. Sometimes it's slipping and missing the registration forks.

I know there is a way to slow it down/make it smoother, but i don't remember how to do it on this press.

how can i adjust the indexing?

Doing ALL this on our Gauntlet RS today. Ordered all new parts - cylinder, MAC valves, Shock - ect. Here is how to slow the thing down: On the right side of the cylinder (indexing side) there are two Allen screw settings. The large allen is for index speed and the small one is for cushion of that speed when it gets to the end of its stroke (at the shock absorber) the settings for speed (large Allen) is different because of the number of colors of press. a 6/8 is 4 turns out (screw it all the way "in" then back out 4 turns) the setting for cushion is 4 out as well. This is factory settings. an 8/10 (our press) it is 4.5 out on the large allen - 4.5 for cushion. For the return of the piston  - full open whth a cushion of (again) 4 out.

PLEASE CALL TEC SUPPORT AT M&R TO CONFIRM!!

thinking out loud here, you may dial in a smooth/slower index but with a variation in air pressure/volume, I wonder if that's going to screw with your adjustments, seeing how there's a leak...how long until the new one arrives?

Adjusting the shock should help. Very small increments though. Watch your head!

Sorry Ron,
He should call who he is purchasing his parts from for the correct technical information. That is only right.

244 - agreed!!

I think I made a mistake when i stated how to tune an air driven press. He has a Mosier - I have "the other kind". at the bottom of my statement it states to call M&R to MAKE SURE whai I advised was the CORRECT method. I usually don't comment on tec but I thought I may have had a voice for quick help - apologies.
