Our pressure washer is an inexpensive Home Cheapo model that is on its last leg. We are looking for one that doesn't sound like a locomotive is coming through the wall but wont break the bank. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Matt

Camspray 1500a
....and one of these. This thing rules. You press a button and toggle between a 15˚ for reclaim and a 40˚ for resolving. Much more repeatable and reliable than the adjustable fan type. This one was kinda cheap but is holding up great, got it at the ranch supply.

I agree with the camspray. They are not cheap but with regular maintenance it will be the last one you have to buy. I have a 1200 psi and it is more than enough. I think I paid about $650.00 more than 3 years ago. I used to get a new Home Depot (Huskey) every 4-6 weeks.
-
If you are near a Northern Tool they have every type size range and should have something to fit your budget.
-
+1 1500A. Northern Tool carries one that looks identical, I'd be surprised if it isn't from the same factory.

zoo what nozzle is that?
-
Speaking of reg maintenance.... need to get on that.
the nozzle is a multi nozzle sort of selector that I bought at the ranch supply

Get a good one and have it for a couple of decades, we have. Probably paid $600 for it in the early nineties, replace a couple of parts here and there from Grainger's. Money very well spent. Way back when we used to staple mesh (and I'm sure some of you are thinking "What?") I'd buy an electric staple gun from Sears about every 2 or 3 weeks. I finally bought and industrial strength Duo-Fast for $250 (mid-eighties dollars) and never had to replace it, just retire it as we moved to glue and then rollers. So whatever you get, bite the bullet and pay for it just once.

we are in the midst of looking for one too. bought a 250.00 one from grainger about a year and a half ago and we are on our 3rd and final warranty replacement. its a piece of junk.
i wish any of us around our shop remember the name of the one we used to have. i started doing screens in our families shop around age 13. i think it burned out when i was 25. and we had it for years before that too. really small, light blue case on it.
-
I used a Kew back in the day that fits that description--Swiss made, little hand-carry, sealed--no grease/oil ports or maintenance?
That was a pretty nice piece of gear, and IIRC they paid something like $300 in the early nineties for it--still cleaning screens today. I haven't seen anything like that from them for years though.
-
We get a new one every 3-6 months. Cheapo from a local home improvement store.
Purchased the first one with full warrenty. Now everytime it goes bad we take it back replace it and purchase a new warrenty for 10.00.
Started doing this after replace one for over 600.00 and haveing the pump fixed on another for 200+ I fugure paying 30.00 a year makes sense.
-
Belt drive, low RPM, metal pump.
My question is, at what PSI do we approach damaging screens?
-
My question is, at what PSI do we approach damaging screens?
I would ideally like a 5k psi for reclaim b/c the pressure diminishes so much the further back you are from the screen. With a really high psi one you could move back and do a wide fan and still have enough power to reclaim effectively so that would mean reclaim in less passes....and also more popped screens from dumbasses putting it too close.
But imagine reclaiming a screen in two passes, that would be excellent.
-
1700 psi Green Machine from Lowes. Knock on wood going on 18 months now without a problem.
-
So it looks like a lot of you like the Camspray, One question about it, Is it quiet? We are located in a mixed use building and it would be nice to keep the neighbors happy.
-
The pump is more quiet than the water at 1500 PSI hitting a well tensioned 305. ;)
When it's unloaded (idling) it's about on par with a quiet vacuum cleaner.
-
we just bought this one from Uline believe it or not -500.00, purrs like a kitten...small little thing, heavy as hell too....no matter what one you go with, make sure you put a filter on it.

I've gone through all the cheapy ones from local box stores and my latest one is the hand carry AR Blue Clean 1500psi. It's small, wall mountable, but had good reviews for durability. So far after about 6 months of abuse it's holding up well, wand handle doesn't leak either like ALL the other ones I've owned.

They had those there for 89.00
there was a stack of 20 of them.

Good deal. You should like the AR. If you read reviews on Amazon, it's one of the only brands that actually has good reviews and no super angry rants.

i had a green works before this and it burned up on me on saturday. so i needed one that day. At least the old one broke when they had them on sale.

We do the same thing, $125 -$175 from Menards/Home Depot. Buy the warranty, $7 or whatever. We have two, so we always have a back up one on hand. But with the warranty just bring it on back, and get another one, no questions. For us it became a bit harder in the winter as a pressure washer is a "seasonal item" here... Go figure, no one wants to power wash their driveway at 10 below?!
Yes, it seems like potentially a lot of running around, but for me, I am usually at Menards like 3 times a week anyway. I go on Sunday with my son that is just walking, even if we don't need anything, kinda like our man church.
I too bought a $700 one that was going to be the "best". I was real nice, more bells and whistles than we needed, and the best one only worked for 10 months.
So far the best(going on 3 months) "chepo" one we have found and are using is:

i got sick and tired of d!cking around with the cheap ones. I bought a CamSpray about 4 years ago and it's going strong. The plug busted, that was it.
-
When I talked the money man into getting the 1500A we have now (after some one-or-two-year cheapos) he was rather surprised to see it--before I was here they had one just like it for nearly twenty years. When I asked him how many times they changed the oil over it's lifespan--he said "Oh, no way, you can change the oil on it?" ;D

that is most likely not legal. Terms of extended warranty on those do not usually cover industrial use. . .

I bought one from sams club. It broke they replaced it. That one broke they replaced it and gave me over $50 because they sold the unit cheaper then. That one broke and they replaced it. Then when this one broke they didn't have a replacement in the store. So they just gave me the cash. I used 4 pressure washers over 2 years (or so) and at the end they gave me all my money back. I didn't end up paying a penny for any of them. They were all under warrantee and they even refunded me the warrantee money. Yes they all broke when I needed them and it was a pain to box them up and go back to the store. Thats why I now have a Northstar 1700 PSI one and it is doing great for 2 years now. The best thing about these commercial ones they are a lot quieter and last alot longer.

this might be Sam's club policy, but every place I bought one it specifically stated it was not covered for industrial use except for 30 days. Most of us don't read the paperwork that comes with them so we don't know. Once I found out, I stopped doing it.
Everybody is free to do as they please, I just pointed out what I found out.

What is "industrial use"? They never ask that when you return them. When does it become industrial use. More than 10 hours of use a week. How can they turn you away unless you tell them your using it for industrial use. Its a pressure washer it should be able to handle cleaning 30 to 50 screens a week. They make them all cheap and they know it. They all busted the same way. They all started leaking. It was a busted seal or the plastic enclosure broke.
Pierre you have way to much time on your hands to be reading warranties. I bet the people doing the returns haven't even read that. I worked at home depot and they return anything. I have seen people return their mower after a year of use. I have seen people return weeds in the pot they bought a plant in. There is way worse people then us screen printers that return broken pressure washers after "industrial use". Guess what happens to brand new products like a chain saw that people buy then return because they only needed it to cut down one tree. They say it broke. That chainsaw will either go back to the manufacture or tossed in the compactor. Most manufacture don't want them sent back, just compact it. I talked to my manager about letting me have a mower once and he said he couldn't let me have it. I had to toss a $250 mower into the trash. I know this has gotten a little better then when I was there but it still happens.

what is says is if it is used for commercial purposes. So if you are making money with it, that's not what those little units are designed for. They are rated about one or two uses a month, that's why they don't last.
I am a little bit anal about doing the right thing and realize not everybody shares my sentiments. As you point out, many ppl return stuff that should not be returned. Just because the big stores let them get away with it does not mean it's right, they are taking advantage of the store in an amoral way. But these are all the choices we make that are based on who we are and the circumstances we live in. Sometimes we don't have a choice and I have done the same thing. Fortunately, I have a choice now and chose to do what I believe is right (and again, not asking anybody to agree with me).

I'd argue that the big stores are taking advantage of the consumer in an amoral way, but that's just me.
How many poor nations could the Waltons rescue these days? And the employee's give notachit about returns why?
I honestly can't really think of another instance where you purchase an item and using it too much violates
a warranty?
I could just imagine the shitstorm that would ensue if my pops bought a nailgun from Homers and it chit the bed
and they wouldn't honor the warranty because he used it to make money. (he's a general contractor)
That said I don't think he'd buy a nailgun from Homers, much as we shouldn't buy pressure washers from there either.
Good on you for walking the straight and narrow though Pierre.

How much time do you guys spend going back and forth to return pressure washers? Me? None. I have more important things to do...like post here.
-
I agree with Pierre (not surprisingly)The home depot return thing gets old and not exactly ethical practise. I believe in industrial grade equipment.
-
When I asked the store managment if there was an issue with me returning my pressure washer, they said no.
I was told "that is why you buy the extened warranty."I do not act all shady and tell them, uh i don't know why it quit working. I am upfront and tell them how the wosher is being used and that I just wore the damn thing out. Their response "sorry to hear that would you like to have one of our associates get your replacement and bring it to the front. "
It takes me less than 5min to return my pressurewasher, the store is 1 block away.
I purchased 2 "industrial" washers and guess what 1 lasted 8mon. Tried to return it and was told it could not be repaired and the warranty only covered parts and labor. Purchased a second "industrial" pressurewasher and the pump went out this company would replace the pump but I was still on the hook for $200+. The second time this pump went out is when I purchased the cheap one whith warrany for less than $150.

please don't take my original post as calling you or anybody else unethical! I was in the same boat as you and was exchanging the pressure washers until a store manager explained why we were not eligible for the extended warranty. Just like you, I asked before and was told "No Problem!". After the manager pointed out that it was for commercial use, I went back to the shop and read the warranty card. Based on the new information I acted differently.
the sole purpose of my post was NOT to call ppl names, but rather to point out what most of don't know; in many cases swapping pressure washers is not covered under warranty.
pierre

My bad Pierre not my intention either but I did get called on this once at HD and they nulled the warantee eventually. Manager stated that we were not using for the intended use. Hey if you can do it and it works and they keep honoring than why not? I just hate going back and forth to HD! Couple of times they failed out of the box. So in that case they obviously have to honor the return even without a warantee.

I know a lot of people don't name names, but you gotta with that story. What brand/model of 'industrial' washer was it? I'm sure everyone would appreciate knowing what brands are dogsh!t....
-
yeah, what brand failed?
I have been more than pleased with our campsray. I will replace it with another one...or maybe one where i don't have to change oil...it gets old
-
our Camspray 1500a had to go back twice in two years we had it. Once it was our fault and once it was theirs. I think it cost us $200 to get it fixed. The way it's running though it will probably last a long time now that we know what not to do.
