Title: Our new toy at the shop!
Post by: inkbrigade on October 03, 2012, 07:44:45 PM
Well, new to us anyways. It's an M&R Kool mist.

It needs a bit of work, and I have to buy some parts from M&R but hopefully should have it up and running in the next week or two.

I'll post my thoughts on how well it works once we get it up and running.

I used one for years only because i needed to print after the flash.  I had to replace the computer twice.  I good tip is make sure the bucket is covered, if not you will stop up the pump with shop lint.  I had that problem too.  Once we got a bigger press we tossed that sucker in the dumpster.  It did work and it did make us able to print after the flash, but to me it was a hassle.  If you are in the same situation we were at that time, it will be a good fit.

After seeing this I had a ton of questions so I found this video. Wouldn't the mist (water and silicone) effect the inks bonding with the flashed underbase???

Absolutely NOT.  It works exactly as described, just a hassle IMO!

We keep coming across jobs where we need it. It sucks to have a 10 color press and not be able to do nine color Jobs because we have to waste a station to be a cool down.

Now if we could figure out a way to flash  and cool in between heads, well...  I'd be a millionaire ;)

TOO LATE they have alrerady been invented they are called air knives smaller specific applications of the air curtains you see going into large building openings. They could easily be installed / sized to fit between stations of an auto and are quite directional unlike a fan blast.

Here is a link  http://www.exair.com/en-US/Primary%20Navigation/Products/Air%20Knives/Pages/Air%20Knife%20Applications.aspx (http://www.exair.com/en-US/Primary%20Navigation/Products/Air%20Knives/Pages/Air%20Knife%20Applications.aspx)
to one manufacturer note the air knife for cooling detail about half way down the page.
The only draw back is you may need a bigger  or another compressor.
