Title: what would happen to the EPSON 4800 if I let the cartridges run dry?
Post by: blue moon on May 16, 2012, 03:12:37 PM
I was thinking about getting refillable cartridges and installing them dry since I don't use the ink anyways.

Is the cleaning solution necessary?

it fries the heads.  the solution is also a coolant for the heads.  Not advisable.

Run cleaning solution or water.

cool!

OK, so I need a good source for the cleaning solution and refillable cartridges. I see them for about $180 for the set with a resetter. I seem to remember somebody having a chip that resets when the ink gets low without having to take it out.

I think I asked about this and Ron Peirson (spelling?)  has done it. So he might know where to get the chip.

Dry head bad. Wet head good.
Ink from cobra so cheap, just leave ink in refillables.

Unless parking machine for extended time. Then need flush and dry out. Still iffy to resuscitate.
