Anyone here running a small desktop dtf printer? I have no want to bring it in house as it's just too easy to order from the hundreds of online suppliers. But I could use something for emergencies. AKA me pressing a shirt upside down today when it's due! Ha. We usually order extra of everything we do, but there are times when things come up.
Like any printer, I know they need to be maintained, but wasn't sure if anyone had a decent experience with one at all that was OK. Doesnt need to be top of the line. I hate dtf as is and try to do as little of it as possible. But in reality, it's part of the business now.

my experience, desktops are just good enough to get you used to having in house and then they die. I have a stack of them waiting for a sunny day and some Tannerite. They are not made for production outside of "CriKet Karen's" rip off items for Facebook marketplace... I have a 24" Mutoh 628 w/ bulk ink tanks - free- if you want it. Needs a print head.
-
just call me and we'll print what you need. saves you the headache of having one in house...

we do work for a printer repair company and they get several calls every day for repairs on desktop DTF and dye-sub printers. He said most of the new desktop printers do not have serviceable heads and when they clog the whole unit needs to get trashed.

I bought an Epson L1800 that Homer turned me onto many years ago and it still prints pretty dang good I've replaced print heads a few times, it's slow, not a production printer but for what we do it works just fine. Thought about getting something bigger as we've been asked many times for roll film DTF order's but there's to many people already with great setup's they can call as well as me if I need a very large DTF order. Yes HOMER!!! has told me to toss that thing down the hall LOL but yet it just keeps right on printing and I've found out white ink clogs come from bad white ink, I started using a different brand and have not had a clog since other than just a nice head cleaning.

These were all the answers I was expecting. haha. I really do not want to bring it in house but was hoping for an easy answer. But those answers to not exist in reality! The time will come when I do need to bring it in, and I'll do it right then. Until then, I'll just keep ordering extras every order like I should be!

Another heads up. Please delete if this self promotion is not allowed.
We will be releasing our new Ultra Color DTF transfers. These transfers will be printed with a 9 color ink set (cmykorgbw). This will make our Ultra Color transfers brighter, with more accurate colors, and allow a much wider gamut range of colors. If you need to hit specific PMS colors, neon colors, or other colors outside of standard CMYK printing, these transfers are your answer. www.tprnt.com (http://www.tprnt.com)

Tprnt has been my go to for a good while now. Always fast and quality transfers. I thought a couple of times about bringing it in house but I already have enough printheads to maintain as it is between the i image, mutoh and sublimation printer.

this is us. Between a $5k Douthitt printhead and a $1,300 brother printhead last year...I've had my fill of dealing with printheads. Let someone else deal with it.
Their transfers are fantastic, customer service is great.
