Well, the printer has started leaving lines in print, I have cleaned heads with cleaning from the computer and SubSonic cleaning, soaked head overnight on cleaning solution and still lines very faint but lines. The very first part of the print is almost none existant and then it starts getting darker. Any clues? I am going to let head soak again tonight hoping it will clear. Thanks ahead of responses
-
It may be off track form your real issue, but have you tried looking inside the printer for anything hanging up along the rollers or where the film feeds out? This is usually my issue with lines. Something caching ink. and letting it drag out. Are the line always on the same area?
-
For some reason that doesn’t sound like a head clog if it gets darker as it goes. I don’t wanna speculate too much but could be something pump related, or something simple like the dampers.
But since you went straight to soaking the whole head I gotta ask, are you running black in all 8 cartridges? I print from one cartridge at a time, so if it fails you can switch to another. So if you’re using them all you could try turning some off and hope the culprit is just one part of the printhead.

When was the last time you cleaned the capping station and the rubber seal on capping station? Last time you replaced the pump assembly? Check those in that order as those are the main culprits. I’ve repaired quite a few 4800/4880 printers. Let me know if I can help.
-
CB I only have one cartridge black
Dan I looked inside really good for anything that may be dragging the rollers but see nothing obvious.
It started just all the sudden, printed several images the day before and next day this started :(
Yes the lines are always horizontal and cannot really tell if they are in a specific order I will try to post pic. Thanks to all

I clean the capping station monthly but have never replaced the pump assembly :(

Up Date
Changed setting on T-Rip to 1440 X 1440 DD HS (it was on 1440 X 1440 HS) and printed a large solid block and it started off skipping or banding and then got solid. Not sure if the change did it or the 3 nights of soaking head with cleaning solution but I will take whichever worked if it will kee[ it up.
Thanks for the feedback and suggestions
-
Awesome to hear! From all of this it makes me feel like the pump is good but maybe you had some drying in the dampers. I keep a set of dampers on hand because they’re relatively easy to switch out and have been the source of an issue for me before.

CB I sent you a PM please let me know if you don't get it. I still need help

This is what’s printing, I was told it may be print head. Has anyone had this type of print? Maintenance tank has lots of loose ink in it so pump is definitely working. Thanks
-
how much ink in cart? sometime they get air in them.

Ink carts are full, black is at 70% and falling☹️
Trying to figure out how to make T-rip or the printer to print from another color and move my black cartridge to that slot to try that but have not figured out how to do that yet.
-
Assuming refillable carts, is the vent left opened? Your pic looks like losing prime/air in lines etc.
That it goes in and out almost confirms it. I've yet to see it happen but check that cart is fully seated,
and if you have a spare cart, worth trying it.
FWIW the heads on these last a loooonnnggggg time. We go through a roll of film or two a week and
they last years and years.
-
Tip the machine towards the back about 1" in front to see if that helps.i did find that helped me sometimes.

Could also be a bad cable signal. I've experienced that on other printers.
This might be reaching maybe, but might not be an ink or head issue. Communication issue maybe.
1, Try powering off, then also disconnecting the printer plug from the wall. Wait 15 seconds or so and re-connect and turn back on.
2, See also, if you can locate a spare printer cable toggle that a shot. Any break in any one of the individual cable wires inside the line from a move or a desk chair smashing on top can do to it.
Just a thought.

I am out of town for a few days but will try all suggestions when I get back and give a report. Thanks to all

Back at it, did the u/plug and re-plug still same thing. Think I may attempt to remove print head and clean. I've seen a couple of videos of them removing and cleaning and I think I can tackle that job. If anyone can think of anything else to try please let me know. Thanks

When you’ve got the head out make sure you check the dampers. There will be some videos on YouTube showing where they are. If you’re flushing the head then it happens through the dampers so it’s a good time to check. They can get a little stuck.
Like I mentioned in PM and like someone said here, the air vents can be a problem.
And air in the cart is an issue too, I have an AccuInk cart that ran out of ink and it felt ‘early’ to me so I weighed it. Definitely a problem with the cart because there’s tons of ink in it. So test with a new cartridge if you can.
And yes agreed with above these things are workhorses so don’t give up just yet. Might take some patience. I don’t wanna say too much and jinx mine but it’s lived a full life already that’s for sure. But on the other hand the headaches have taught way more about inkjet printers than I ever wanted to so it might be a gift AND a curse. I see old wide formats on classified and think “I could get that running...”
Oh and one more thing. I get all my parts from https://www.sign-in-china.com
Pretty sure I found the link here so thanks again TSB.

CB, I have recently changed ink but it has been in use for over 2 months. Not wanting to say its the ink but after cleaning and run same print the missing area is always the same. I may try to find another of the ACCUink Chromaline ink., hate to spend $100 bucks for nothing. Its just strange to me that its in the same spot every time, it starts dark and then skips and starts banding. I still have ole 3000 to back up but sure do like the 4800. Thanks again
-
Exact same area of print fading out would imply something digital. I know you un/plugged cable,
but have you tried a different one?
Similar area of print would mean something like losing prime to the heads, sucking air somewhere.
-
I have not tried the cable but will do that tomorrow. I’m grasping at all straws☹️ I’m really wondering if it’s my head plugged, someone had told me that these printers have a battery in them and when it dies the head will malfunction. I’ve never heard that before. Would really like to find someone who works on them and I could pick their brain. Thanks

I’ve never heard of the battery issue but I’ve had my day ruined by a bad cable too. Worth a shot for sure.
Agreed with above something is either messing with the pump action (clogged damper, clogged line, plugged cartridge) or it’s a digital issue with file transfer.
Because if the head was clogged it’d be clogged. It wouldn’t print a bit then stop the same way every time I don’t think.
Best of luck to ya. I think you’re getting really close.

I sure hope so CB, this will cause serious ulcers. Hoping someone will chime in on an Epson expert. I am changing cable this afternoon to see. Thanks again for all the input and prayers :). Got to love our business..
-
this may be a long shot as I do not have a 4800 but I do have a f7070 Epson and we had an issue which looks very similar to what you are seeing. starts printing fine and then will get the banding like your image. we had everything replaced (pump, tanks, head, and several other things as well 6K worth of parts) in the end it turned out that the head height(offset) needed to be adjusted to a higher setting. this allowed just a little more room between the head and paper and everything worked perfect. not sure why this happened as nothing changed before this started.
so look to see if there is a setting to control the printhead height(offset) on this model.
but again it may not be available on the 4800.

Just got off the phone with Compas micro (Epson Repair shop) and his quote was if the nozzle check is not correct its the nozzles stopped up. He suggested finding a cleaning solution for the black cartridge ( since black will only plug into black port) and run cleaning program several times or find someone that offers black ink that will plug into the Cyan or other colors and don't worry about the black. So it's off on another goose hunt.
-
Are you running any other colors at all? you can burn head up. I do have a set of refillable with cleaning and ink I will sell.
I have a t3270 now.

get chips that you can reset. use your black ink cartridge, put it in a cyan (or which ever you like) slot with a cyan chip and tell the RIP to use cyan for printing.
should solve your issues. . .

I do have reset chips and blank cartridges but you cannot just change black to the Cyan slot due to the grooves in the bottom only lets the cyan fit in that slot :( Done tried that.
CB I am running cleaning soulutions in all my other cartridges to keep head from burning up. I got an email from Conde systems today and am waiting on phone call from him. I know they are experts on the epson so I am anxious to hear what he says. I will keep everyone posted. Thanks for all the input I really do appreciate it.

Does anyone use T-Rip as there rip program? I am trying to use my cyan as my black. Got blank cartridge for black and filled Cyan with black ink. Now I have to make printer use Cyan for black. I contacted Scott F. and he sent instructions for 1430. Did 2 power cleans and have black ink in waste tank so the black is in the line just not going through print head. I am getting liquid marks on print instead of ink. Thanks

you can pull the guide pieces off and the have universal cartridges. If for some reason that is not the case, open a cyan and transfer the bag with ink into it.
easy peasy!

Well, I have tried about everything except a 12 gauge:( Looks like I am now looking for another printer that will work with T-Rip so I don't have to purchase another Rip program. Suggestions?
I've got my money worth out of this printer but I am not going to put any more money in it. Thanks for everybody's advice.

And just my luck, my 4800 crap the bed today and is printing nothing at all too. Sounds like the same issue you’re having. So annoying. CTS time...

I just got a WF7210, but it was to replace a WF1100. Perfect for my (comparatively meager) needs. The Workforce (WF) line is a step down for a lot of folks here. This, after all is a printer that sells for $150 or so.
I use pigment inks and use it for films as well as transfers. I don't use a rip other than Ghost, and for that matter, hardly ever even need that.
btw, besides a bit of a learning curve, and a lot more mechanical sounds compared to my 1100, I like it! Faster output, wireless connection for the ipad and iphone when needed, no more need for a waste pad bypass jar (this guy has the easily replaceable maintenance box), and my Cobra refillables include an oversize black tank.

actually not really. Ebay has a money back guarantee. If it is listed as used, it has to be 100% functional or you get your money back. It could have cosmetic issues, but other than any problems listed in the description it has to work.
