Title: CorelDRAW - Trapping, Overprints, etc
Post by: Frog on November 15, 2011, 10:34:17 AM
I mentioned this in another thread when you said that you like to do some things manually when making separations.

I also find myself doing a lot of things manually, but often it's because I don't fully understand the Auto options.
Somewhere between v8 and current (I use X4), options for Trapping and Auto Trapping in the Print window changed. I also seem to get confused with Overprints.

Can you give me and the other Corel-ers an overview of these features?

Thanks

let me pull some info together and will make a post in a little bit.  No matter what, just remember the advanced features were designed for offset and not us T Shirt artists / printers.

During my beta cycles and advisory council sessions with Corel, I have put forth a ton of effort into getting features added that would better us in our industry. Hopefully we will see some in the future. One can only hope

The overprints option is easy.

Lets say you have a letter T that you color yellow.  Now you copy and paste the T on top of itself and color it blue.  Only the blue color shows.  Now if you right click on the blue T and select "overprint fill", its going to simulate printing the blue on top of the yellow and give you a greenish color.

Now when you go into the print options, there is an option to either preserve or ignore document overprints.  If you preserve it, it will print out plates for both the yellow and blue T.  If you choose to ignore overprints, it will only print out a plate for the blue T.

LOL Sorry for the delay. I had a person emergency that I had to take care of and left town around 3 AM Friday morning. Didn't get back until 12:30 Saturday night.  900+ miles in that time and had to do art.  Will get it posted here soon, I promise   8)
