Not trying to bash here just like some info, everyone by now knows I use Anatol and they have been really good on support when ever I've needed it, but here is my question what are some of the problem's some of you are having with your quartz flash?, our's is going on eight years old now and I'm starting to replace bulbs and sockets from arcing. I replaced a socket a few month's back that had arc the socket tip right off and the bulb tip, I try to keep the tip and bulbs clean at the ends but looks like our Christmas down time will be repairing the flash unit. I was told I could send it back in and they would refurb it with new wire in bulbs which would replace the old socket style now for a few hundred bucks, I've only had this style of flash so I'd like to know a little about what other's have.

If they are the spring loaded sockets cheaper ones will lock up from the heat not allowing them to make good contact with the bulbs which will arc the tips off. With the power off you can push in on them and they should move freely. Soneko makes nice replacements about $5 each, you have to request longer leads on them the Std is about 6" long. Usually when one goes bad change them all and be done with it.

Hey Brian question about the leads. Do you recommend rewiring the sockets directly to the connectors versus splicing into to the existing wires? Reason I ask I cannibalized 4 sets of the sockets from one flash to replace burnt ones on our main flash but all I did was cut and splice with a linesman splice and heat shrink. Is that ok?

The few I have had to splice I soldered the connections and covered in heat shrink.
