Title: Consulting Services
Post by: jsheridan on November 23, 2016, 02:05:01 AM
Have you ever considered hiring a consultant?

Blacktop Graphics is now offering consulting services for Screen printers and their staff.

What can I do for you.. that's a very long answer that covers 30 years of production floor experience. Simple answer is, I cover everything from film printing to packing the order into a box. If its production floor related, I've been there, done that and can help you do it better.

I don't do sales and marketing or meetings.

Here it is

A ship engine failed, no one could fix it. Then they brought in a man with 40 yrs. on the job. He inspected the engine carefully, top to bottom. After looking things over, the guy reached into his bag and pulled out a small hammer. He gently tapped something. Instantly, the engine lurched into life. The engine was fixed! 7 Days later the owners got his bill for 10k. 'What?!' the owners said 'You hardly did anything. Send us an itemized bill. ” the reply simply said Tapping with a hammer. $2 Knowing where to tap? $9,998 Don't Ever Underestimate Experience.

I had the pleasure of having John at our shop all last week on a consulting gig. He got in on Sunday and headed out Friday. Pretty sure it was mid evening Sunday, just after he saw the shop when he wanted to leave... ;)

Honestly though, you name it and John had a way to handle it. Between our network going down and getting our new to us CTS in the basement and through the wall(yes you read right) I was EXTREMELY unprepared. Surprise, surprise..  John just hoped right in and got to it. Pretty sure I wouldn't of been able to image screens without him there.

From layout, to scheduling, to staging, to technique, he had the answer. The right answer, backed by experience. It's funny, at times I found some of his posts to be a "know it all" response, maybe even cocky(sorry John). Thing is, and this was VERY cool to realize, I came to find out I was just interpreting them wrong. John has probably been in EVERY type of shop and experienced EVERY problem there could be. His replies weren't cocky, they were just the ACTUAL answer with no B.S. That was GREAT! Bottom line, boom, here is how to combat this issue, what's next? Awesome.

It was a great experience for me and my team. Everyone took away some new knowledge and experience. John too, now he can say he has rigged and lifted a CTS out of a basement through the floor!

Probably a bonus that he is one hell of a nice guy!

Knowing where to tap is right, knowing the correct sound of the tap to confirm, is another $10k  8)

I was a little worried with alex after seeing the shop, he has all the cool tools of the trade and uses them very well. he just forgot to outline where all the tools are supposed to go on the wall and what goes in what drawers. Think i'm going to add workshops and tool boxes to that ole personality theory of mine  ;)

Loved the building, really cool old building with tons of character and who can't love hoisting a CTS outa the basement with a winch!
Can add that and operating a ROQ to my list of "you're not a screenprinter if you haven't.... "

Thanks for having me out bro.

It's a New Year.. and what better way to start than to kickstart your printing processes into high gear while the getting is good with a consult!

It's slow here, maybe there and this is the perfect time to look at and organize your production floor. What goes here and there and how that gets to there are all important tasks to be addressed to handle the spring rush that will soon be upon us.

Did you buy some new equipment at the end of quarter, are you planning for the arrival and looking at installs and general shop adjustment or are you just in need of some fresh ideas and a working pair of hands to make it all happen..

then..

Put me on a plane!
