Title: DIY Platen Tape Dispenser Stand.
Post by: kingscreen on November 11, 2016, 07:57:50 PM
An old moving dolly, a 2x4, and a scrap piece of closet rod.  And of course some flat black paint.

I like it. This is the kind of stuff I wish I had more space for...

Good job! I've been trying to get around to making a dispenser for ours, too. I like that you've built in a way of measuring it to the right length every time.

Great idea if you have the space . For the space challenged these work pretty well and don't take up any floor space

Nice!
take it one step further and make an arm that holds the boards so you can replace the paper off press.

Knew a guy years ago who fashioned something like this. Had 6 presses on the floor and one person would re-paper all of the boards from sleeve to 30x45 allovers.

I designed it to neatly stow next to/under the dryer.  It takes up virtually no space at all.

We call that a manual press.  ;D

Love it.  Anything that shifts a task off the press is super smart.

Mooseman those applicators look dope, if I'm getting it right they act like a giant tape gun?

Exactly just like a wide tape gun for applying the same paper to cut  vinyl signs.

That rules, going to run it by the crew and get one if they think they'll use it.  Thx!

That is pretty cool, but it almost seems like it would be overkill. By the time you have the tape folded under and started, you would be half way down the board already!

I'll buy it. Anything you don't like about it?

I've never seen a serious sign shop stick with using one of those applicators, pretty tough to maintain pressure over such a wide length to get a good, bubble-less application in most cases.

This is one I made for doing signage. The rollers are pvc pipe with plugs that have bearings (do a search for "roll end bearings for PVC pipe"). The frame clamps to the end of a table, the paper feeds down between the rollers. The weight of the roll would keep just enough tension on the paper that I could feed out about three feet, anchor it down to the far end of the substrate, then slowly work my way back towards the roller with the nylon sign "squeegie" thing eliminating most bubbles. The two metal uprights are just truss anchors to keep the roll more or less centered. The bearings were the only real expense and I don't think they cost that much.

We use this, used to use it for applying transfer tape to vinyl. https://youtu.be/w8nuDk7iQ2g (https://youtu.be/w8nuDk7iQ2g)
