Title: ISS Long Beach Jan 20-22...Be there!!!! (all reptiles welcomed)
Post by: jill on September 10, 2011, 01:03:58 PM
Sooooo....Free registration for ISS Long Beach is on right now.  Everyone should sign up just in case.  Here's the link.....

I think most everyone agrees that the ISS Long Beach show is THE biggest and best show for printers.  We've even sucked in a few artists.   Its three solid days of a good time.  Always a lot going on but plan on dinner at the mansion Saturday night....

Here's a glimpse of a past year....

Hi there, I'm wondering what would be the ideal package for a beginner? I'm just opening my own shop without any actual training other than hands on from the last 2 years of hobby printing. Is it worth going to all the seminars and all the workshops? What could a first timer expect to learn from these shows?

Heck guys, I have not been to a trade show since I quit running die stamp presses in 1986! I have never gone to a screen printing show, and am looking forward to Long Beach as my first.
As for free, you don't need me to help you in that regard. The show itself has free pre-registration, as Jill linked, and most industry manufacturers and distributors should also have passes or codes, especially as the time approaches.

And for the record Jill, Frogs are amphibians! ;D

I will be there. I am looking forward to the classes. I went last year and they were good and I met a bunch of good people. It would be cool to have a meeting place for everyone on here. Maybe saterday night. It would be nice to put a face to some of these screen names.

The classes are worth it. Even if you know what your doing. I find that every screen printer does things a little differant. Last year I learned more from the guy next to me then the guy teaching. He had a really big shop in orange county and really helped me with what size of shop to get. He even saved me a few thousand by helping me with points on negotiating the contract. Always ask questions no matter how stupid you may look. Questions costs you nothing, mistakes cost thousands.

I will be there Friday to Sunday.

I've never met Rob.. that would be a fun night as I'm sure we both have some fantastic stories about those days.

After dinner is the Irish pub directly across the street from the Con center. I've stumbled home a few times from there in the wee hours of the morning from a few to many Guinness ;D

What night. I will be there Friday all day and saterday all day. I will have classes in the mornings. I think they go until 1:00 or so.

I will be there Friday night and then leaving Saturday night. I am staying at the best western. It’s the only place that had a room in walking distance. I guess I should have bought a room months ago.

We should all do a meet up on Saturday after the show in the ball room. I think they have that every year. Music and free beer.

I'm still figuring how to meet and say howdy to many folks who know me (and still like me, lol) via the internet but never face to face.

I am totally unfamiliar with the show's set-up, and am hoping for a little help from some friends (Jill, Donnie?)
and am also tentatively planning oin planting myself at an announced specific spot at a few specific times, and see who shows up.
(Jon, Rich H. says there's always plenty of room at his booth for this purpose.)

A few of you guys have mentioned meeting up. If you'd like, we can swap mobile phone numbers via PM or email.

Otherwise, is it practical to set up a couple of times for any Shirt Board members who want to kiss the frog or meet other members as well, to merely head by M&R at, say 11:00 and 3:00 Friday and Saturday?
As I have told you guys, I'm a trade show virgin and may be barking up the wrong tree with this idea but it seems practical and do-able to me.

So.... it's that time of year again. My business partner and I will be there Friday - Sunday morning. I think I am just gonna' make a TSB sticker or something to slap on my chest. So Friday night, Saturday night, drinks at some bar? I believe Mr. Sheridan was saying some Irish bar across the street. My brain is a little fuzzy from last year being at the bar on the Queen Mary or whatever that boat was! Looking forward to meeting you guys in person and seeing old friends again

Just to check in and let everyone know what a great show Long Beach was (and is) and to once again give thanks to Paul S and Rich H and Tim Johnson, and Dan Axelson, for their personal attention to me, along with Peter Walsh, Mark Vasilantone, Doug Grigar, and Lord knows  how many other gracious and friendly representatives of the industry I met.
Then, we have the members from this board that I was able to meet face to face, and even eat and drink with many of them Friday night.
I am sorry for any members who I didn't get to meet, and Erik of Action, every time I tried to get to you you, someone else had some real product questions for you that I thought took precedence, and the next thing I knew, the show was over. Hopefully next time.

Last, and far from least was my long awaited formal induction into the TSPMB refugees. I haven't felt this close and accepted and family-like since I was sent to sit on the Group "W" bench during my induction way back in 1971!
Coyote Bob, with his grand prize of a full set of DTG inks from Resolute was not the only winner by a long shot!

Good afternoon Frog. Our team took the redeye last night and have been here following up on our show orders and promises since 9am. It really was a fantastic show for every exhibitor & attendee that I spoke with.

Thanks to everyone for taking the time to make the journey. Frog - my apologies for not being available. I would have sincerely enjoyed meeting you. It really was a very busy show and because we had so many new products to discuss - presentations were lengthy. I hope we'll meet next year. :)

:)

I think it's great that you sound so official Frog.  If I hadn't had the "it's not a hug unless it lasts 10 seconds in our PJs" moment, I'd believe you.  :)

kiddin

sorta....NH

anyway

It was a blast.  the show was great as always.  I regret not getting a chance to chat with Deb Sexton, but I got to meet a lot more folk and actually walked out of there with 3 solid and many many more potential jobs.

Gotta say thanks to Hoffman.  had a great chat about his Asian stuff and then he bought my dinner.....(actually all of ours dinner)...even though he didn't join us.  Laid back cat...it was a nice gesture, so big ups on that.

I was hopin there would be more Shirtboard on hand but Coyote, and friends were down.

The beach house crew was great as always.  You know...space is limited, but there's a bunch of houses right there.  It'd be easy for another group to do the same thing...then it'd be a block party...or...actually a blockhead party...taking the participants into consideration. :)

A lot of folks may wonder what the benefit in going to the show is and I gotta tell you...networking....putting faces to names, finding common ground and talking shop with shops is the best.

I have life long friends because of this event.  It's made me better.

Can't wait for next year.

-lemorris

p.s.  Steve Monroe was awesome.....period.  :)

It is a big kick for me to meet people I know as board members and see if my mental image of that person matches up with my perception. I met Dave Garrison of "Spreading Ink" whom I've sponke with over the phone a few times and exchaned emails. Great Guy, very down to earth with a business that has grown into a major player in large format. Lemorris is always rolling everyone with the quips.  Jill is the greatest. I miss everyone all ready.
