We had a Cinema and Drafthouse years ago in town. I don't know if it's still there. Went there about 34 years ago to see "The Rose" the night after I'd gotten myself fixed. Needed to keep an alcoholic buzz going. The weekend wasn't the only thing that was lost.
There's an art theater in town that serves some food, wine and beer with the films. Seating is at small tables in a comfy chair.

At least it's not a drive-in?

Oakland has had the Parkway for some time. Tries to provide more of a living room feel.

This is the only theater that I ever heard showing the somewhat rare William Shatner film, Incubus, shot in Esperanto.

we do alot of work for Alamo Drafthouse, which serves craft beer and food in the movies!

We have Cinnebarre on the island here. Food+beer/wine+movie=$$$$$$$$$. The upscale place on the other side of MP has a fine dining restaurant attached to it all under one roof. Smart.

Plus as an option, they have very small viewing rooms with plush seating.
Oh! They also serve real food...
I think it's a great idea.

why isn't it a good idea?
you won't stop people form making poor decisions by limiting their access to things.
if you want to ban something at the movies, make it cellphones. punishable by execution.

Been to the Alamo and got kicked out of the old Parkway. Laughing at all the wrong
parts of some nerd flick.
It's a good thing. no more bringing a keg to the drive ins.

Okay, that brings up more old muck from the frog pond.
1971, a Drive-In in Hayward CA had a midnight event in which no cars were allowed! I believe that they showed 2001 A Space Odyssey, so beer and wine may not have been the chemicals of choice.
Folks brought blankets and quilts, and sleeping bags and listened through all of the speakers hanging on their posts.
They were also expected to spend the whole evening.

Beer at the movies is a bad idea. I have not drank beers at a movie before. We did have about some strong IPAs before a movie once. It was the transformer move. I really wanted to see it. The problem was we had to pee about every 20 mins.
Now I know not everyone will go to the movies to get drunk but some will. So you will have people getting up to get the next round and also alot of people going to the bathroom. That would suck.

We have a local cinema for the last 30yrs + which serves beer and wine along with dinner as well. They do not show the newest releases but a very nice place for a night out with dinner, drinks and movie. it has tables and the like through out the theater. They made it big in the 80's with rocky horror picture show.

To top it off, some of the rooms have a no minors policy.

Went to see the first Matrix movie with some friends that were drinking shroom tea that day. 3 out of the 4 freaked out when neo took what ever color pill that was and I had to take them home.
Wife and I are planning to take the little ones the movies tomorrow, and a cold one would surely help calm the nerves when dealing with a 2 and 3 year old.

Well, if those rooms included some old bench seats out of 60's-era automobiles and a single crackly speaker, you could recreate the ambience some of us enjoyed during our dating years. Add your own barnyard noises and "petitions to the Lord" as necessary.

I don't have little kids anymore but I think it is a bad idea if drinking and families with kids are mixed, someone is bound to show there ass and get beer muscle's. I don't know how they plan to set it up yet, but I think they are asking for trouble.

Hell, try a baseball game with bat give-away on top of the beer!

We have ipic in Scottsdale. You can order wine and beer and food, you sit in a recliner with a pillow. On Tuesdays, drinks are half price, so going here and having dinner, drinks, movie and popcorn (included with ticket) is no more expensive than a regular movie + dinner, popcorn etc. and it doesn't matter if the movie sucks... the food is good and I can have a Kiltlifter. I haven't been to a regular movie theater in years.
