Our printer is fighting us tooth and nail and we cant get a good nozzle check. What are the steps to deep clean this thing?
-
I know if you hold down the ink button for like 3 or 5 seconds it does a regular cleaning. For some reason I want to say hold it for 10 seconds and it does a deep clean. I could be TOTALLY wrong, it has been a while since our 1400 craped out on us and found itself in a Office Space style beat down! ;D

G - soak a rag in ammonia based windex and place it under the head for a few hours, I don't think the 1400 has a power clean like the larger models have.all else fails....Office Space.....
-
Looks like the Windex helped a bit, enough to get me thru a few days but I think its time to get a new one. The 1400 is 5 years old and its probably that time.

I will take that back. It will give a good nozzle check but after a couple inches of print clogs up again.
-
If you ran out of ink at some point it could be air in your lines.
Also, the park pads/pump station could be clogged as well. Soak it with windex
and let it sit overnight then give it three head cleanings and a nozzle check.

Before the downhill slide about a week ago it gave a message about some part ending its servicable life. I got a download to "reset" the message and its been crap ever since. I had the Windex on it for a few hours and it gave me one good nozzle check after about 4 cleanings and when it starts printing it just gives up after about an inch or two.

Going to pick up a 1430 tonight, are the cartridges the same? I am hoping so, I could just transfer the refillable carts I have already.

sorry to say new isn't always better my 1400 worked flawlessly for 5 years , it died so I picked up a 1430 and it has been clogged a pile of times not sure what changed . It still works but not as good as my 1400.

If the chips are older style they most likely wont work. The problem sounds like it is in your refillables. The vents on them get clogged, the sponges get clogged. Your can clean them out with very hot water. Also the bottom of the print head can have a lot of build up if you haven't cleaned. Since the 1400 has no ink lines and is a over head in supply when things like this happen it usually has nothing to do with the printer itself when it pertains to ink supply issues.
