Title: Looking for a RIP. Suggestions
Post by: Denis Kolar on January 31, 2014, 09:38:23 AM
Seems that the FilmMaker is the favorite here.

Anything else I could consider or that is the best bet? Wait until ISS show to get a deal or it is not worth it?

I just purchased used Epson R2400 in great condition and it seems that I can not find good enough setting for a dense enough prints.
RIP should help me with that.

I have UltraSeps installed for the seps.

TIA

We run Accurip and like it. I want to say Techsupport  or Atlas Screen Supply sometimes run a deal on it. There is also a fully functional 30 day download

Wasatch is supposedly better than FM, but it\s almost three times the money to get the screenprinting version with all the bells and whistles.

Time to get FM is right now as they are possibly going to remove some features currently available and license them out (sublimation I think, but can't remember exactly).

we use accurip, it gets the job done... FM has a ton of bells and whistles. I went with accurip because it was stupid easy to use but I wish I would have went with FM..I would upgrade but I just got the hang of my system now so tossing another change in the mix is not what I need...go with FM, it's like buying a ten color press when you think you only need a 6...overbuy now and when the time comes, it will be there waiting for you with all the cool adjustments....but that's just me...

I've spent the last 4 years with accurip. Highly recommended. Not sure about the others mentioned. It works for me so I have stuck with it.

If curious (and adventurous) you could download the 30 day trial of Filmmaker and see what some of the others are talking about.

It is only a 14 or 15 days for free.

I'll get that and then 30 days of AccuRip to compare. That will take me to the ISS show.

I downloaded the FilmMaker RIP trial over the weekend and tried to set it up.
Tried density print test, it does not seem dense enough with one black..
tried using two blacks and that caused ink to be all over the paper. It was just leaking all over the place. Printed way too much ink.

Anyone had the same experience.

Using Dye ink and refillable cartridges from CISinks.com Prints fine when I print regular prints.

Thanks

once you get it to work. Please give us a review, because I had issues with making it run smoothly.

lower the resolution to decrease the ink volume and also go to variable dot setup (in print mode overrides) and change the number of grays and percentage. You'll have to play with it as I don't know what the settings are for your printer. . . I can walk you through it over the phone if you are stuck.

Thanks guys.
I'll try density and a variable dot.

Pierre, I might give you a call, will try to get it up and running sometimes late this afternoon.

SO I got to thinking and looking from this post last week. What are peoples opinions on FilmMaker vs. Wasatch SoftRIP? Looks like they are pretty much the same price if you get the desktop version(which runs the 4900 we have).

The biggest advantage Wasatch has requires the screenprinting module upgrade which drives the cost to $1.2K. I can't justify that. . . I am a huge fan of FM and especially now with few extras they introduced in version 4 it is a fantastic product, but it is possible that Wasatch is a better product. They do offer 30 day money back guarantee, so if you are shopping, I would trying it (if they really are the same price).
