SGIA 2013 Orlando- Hidden Treasures- What is your top 3 list
« on: October 27, 2013, 04:03:30 PM »
#1 CTS with integrated LED exposure units combined with automatic washout booth at M&R.

#2  SGIA Education zones ON THE SHOW FLOOR, with dozens of 50 minute HOW TO DO IT presentations, way to go SGIA.

#3  EPSON purpose built DTG machine entry into the market, this should elevate the DTG expectation.

Honorable mention goest to M&R for their new platen system allowing registration across multiple machines/techniques.

I did the demo on that pallet system, basically it integrates all M&R equipment to be in perfect registration moving pallets from machine to machine.  If you have a 12 color machine and an 8 color machine but need to do a 15 color print, you can print 10 colors on one machine, then snap off the pallets and put them on the 8 color machine and print the next 5 colors, and all will be PERFECTLY registered.  I watched it be done on 3 different machines and the registration was PERFECT.   It was pretty cool.

that epson machine looks good.  it should give brother a run for their money.  strange that the white ink and non white ink versions are the same price though...maybe that will change.

it looks like their haven't gotten everything up on their site yet for consumables.  Should be pretty cool when it's done.

M&R seems to really be pushing the envelope right now...they are coming up with some great ideas.

Just checked out the Epson website, makes it look easy. No mention of pre treatment though. Have they found a secret to eliminate pretreat for darks?

I checked it out at the show. They say that pre-treat is an easier /smoother method. More consistent. I didn't get to involved in it.

From the demo, the image quality was of course good. But just as good as the others. Not much better from what I can see. Someone pointed out that it had some registration issues on the samples with white peaking out. That can be typical of any machine. Just some tweaks to the art and/or file setup and you can eliminate it.

I'm wondering just what makes it "better" than others. They simply say it will be easier to work with. Less maintenance. IUt has a 20k price tag so I would expect it to be much better.

you have to look under accessories to find the pretreat.

the ink prices aren't shown yet, which is a huge cost on these things.  Epson inks aren't cheap to begin with, i would imagine these are no different.

Personally I would be a little leery having Epsons history and their desire to keep sales up with consumables makes me wonder how much are you under their thumb if you own a DTG from them?
