I've also heard this opinion. No needle is made of pure titanium. That would cost hundreds of dollars.
Any needle referred to as titanium is, in fact, only titanium coated with titanium nitride which is an ultra thin coating applied to the surface of the needle. The coating is very hard and reduces wear on the needle. It does not significantly affect the overall strength of the needle.
Most industrial sewing factories around the world use titanium-coated needles because they last 5-8 times longer than the standard chrome-coated needles.
I recomand topstitch needle for all sewing.

Only thing I could suggest is adjusting the needle distance from the hook. If it is set to close to the hook when running hats the needle flags and hits the hook then breaks. Sometimes flagging can be so bad that the needle is even hitting the top of the throat plate if you think that might be happening place a piece of scotch tape over the area and look for scratches on the tape after a needle breaks. But usually adjusting the hook/needle distance is the key. Also lower your speed as much as bearable that way the needle has a chance to recover from flagging before it hits the hook.

Remember tho you should readjust the hook afterwards otherwise running flats will suffer, plus always check your hooks for burrs from breaking needles use emory cloth to smooth out.
