Poster art, or some thoughts on design.

I always yak about 'poster art'.

Go and google it up you'll get a zillion different takes on the subject.

What I am usually referring to though, is not so much style, as mechanics, although lots of folks rock the style.
( perhaps I need a better term, but it works )

It's art that's viewable from a distance, and because of this, makes the viewer want to come closer and have another look.

It can be simple stuff, or super-awesome detailed, but still catches the eye at distance.
It can be achieved through line-weights, contrast, colors, composition...likely many more.

I'd say it pertains to all art, but especially to garment art, as it's always first viewed from a distance.

I worked with a guy once that was a poster designer and printer. He printed them in his basement at home. Never would have thought he was a printer. He was real old school tho.  He did it for the art of printed posters.

My first job out of art school printing posters. They were more commercial. Posters for JCPenny's and stores like that. We would occasionally get in some nice art from bands but they normally didn't do the quantities we needed at our shop so it was rare.
