CorelDRAW - how to fill a shape with a word

I don't want to clip it with Power Clip, but rather want to distort it to take the shape of an outlined object.

I have versions 14 and 16 readily available.

Andy one way is to use the envelope tool, click on presets click on the arrow in which you use to sample the shape, then click apply (assuming you had the word selected all along) but it really never works well. It will do some funky stuff to the letters so I have always done thins manually using the nodes etc.

Doesn't seem to work for me. Whether I click Add New or Add Preset, it just seems to give me a rectangle around my object (outline of Australia) and then doesn't place my text there either.

Maybe in the past I always just dragged nodes, I can't remember.

The attached example was simple node editing...Remember to be careful of doing this sort of thing...letters are, after all, just shapes...One monkeys with them too much, and they aren't shaped the same/don't read well any more. I do loves me some power clipping!

That's what I'll probably do. (and as I said, probably what I've done in the past)
Interesting effect probably by doing this, enlarged a bit, and then power clipped in to lightly trim the outside edge.

Back in the day of psychedelic posters, we often hand lettered so they could fit any shape.

Hey Andy (I always feel like Gomer when I type that) In Illustrator, we have a command that will fit an object to the "shape on top". If you want to send me a .pdf of your project, I'll give it a shot for you...

Firrst set your type,  create the shape you would like the text to fit.
Select your type - then go to the envelope docker - click add new. Then click the little eyedropper button in the envelope docker, it will give you a fat arrow to select the desired shape. click on your shape ( the envelope should change from a rectangle to the shape you picked. Back at the docker hit apply button.

No problem Frog, we all can use a "jumpstart" at times! Love the old school concert poster/Roger Dean(ish) style typefaces! Artsy, almost to the point of illegibility! I used to be the unofficial lettering guy in the art dept....everything hand-drawn back in the day...finally got a good copier, then we could buy sheets of presstype, and blow up multiple copies, paste up our Blacklines, and take them to the (Gasp!) DARKROOM, and shoot them to FILM positives! It seems that precious few can properly justify a line of type anymore....Instant artist, just add computer! Grrr! LOL!
Still have a half roll of Amberlith for emergencies!

Thanks. almost like Inkman tried to explain to me as well, but I got it to work this time.

Turns out that Tasmania was mucking it up. Like a dummy, I wasn't seeing that my shape was really two objects, thus invalidating my shape from envelope candidacy.

Yes, Tasmania was doing that to me too in Illy. I found that the rough outline (coasts are like that) had to be smoothed out. But that Corel version looks real good...

Fortunately, I think the particular word lends itself to this treatment as well.
