Gauntlet R/S 8 color

I in the process of getting my gauntlet up and running, this may be an M&R owner question. I currently have a Javelin 6x8 and I have a foot pedal attached to manually advance the platen arms. Can I add one to the Gauntlet, and if so where does it connect.

Never seen it done and I rather doubt it can be. I don't get why you would though other than you have been used to it on the Javelin and (I'm toatally guessing) that you typically operate the press by yourself). It's totally unnecessary on a Gauntlet but you may need to adjust how you think and operate the machine. The dwell timer is your friend! Often I have seen one man auto operating at around an 8 or 9 second dwell which is usually sufficient for one individual to both load and unload the machine.
The only reason I ever installed a foot pedal was on a Precision Oval. This was an index lock that was foot operated and did not require the operator to race around to the back of the machine. Primarily so the pallets did not burn when flashing.

yep, i agree with tony.once you get used to the gauntlet you will see NO need for the foot pedal..besides its easy to index using the switch..be sure to set up your no shirt detector, they work great and learn the revolver program if it has it..

Funny thing is i had a Javelin before i switched to a Gauntlet. No more foot pedal means more production. Now there is no BS session between hitting the foot pedal. If you want to run it like the Javelin you can. Use the manual function (instead of auto). That means it will index one time. Just like the pedal does.

I have a freedom which is similar to the javelin but I have never once used the foot pedal.  The freedom has a dwell time similar to the gaulent and I run the machine alone all the time.  Just wondering why some one would use the foot pedal even on the javelin?

While on the subject of foot pedals, MHM's have a pedal that can be used to index
once in manual mode like the Javelins, but in auto it is used as a delay. Press won't index

That is super-smart.  Then you aren't messing with your rhythm just because one piece was hard to load or something.  I like the idea of a "pause" button/pedal that's not an emergency stop or something drastic.

On our Javelin I stood on the foot pedal instead of using full auto if I had a shirt going hinky I simply lifted my foot to stop and fix. It also taught me to set my shirts up as close as possible and completely remove and foot steps while loading.

I agree with RS once you get use to the no shirt detector (if inculcated) it will aid in learning how to run the GT as fast as your job will allow. I found that printers (fist time auto user) were petrified to put the press in the auto mode. A way around that with the aid of a shirt detector, I would have the operator running the job load every other pallet till he/she got comfortable loading at that speed. Only then would I suggest they load every pallet. So yes it is a great tool to have, in that the press (job) sets the speed not the operator, that is the best way to maxims production.  JM2C

tony, is it possible to get a no-shirt detector for an older gauntlet, like a 1999?

I just upgraded my flash to a shuttle flash and that is AMAZING.

Hey MK if I remember correctly that year press should have a socket (plug) down below, it should be labeled "shirt detector". If you have any problem locating it contact Mike (in service) at 800-736-6431. But to answer your question is "yes" you can.

I got a call from Mr. Hoffman and he instructed me on how to wire a foot pedal to the gauntlet. I don't use the pedal all of the time but it is handy for when you got some hard to line up item like a print above a pocket for example. Speaking of printing above the pocket what is some ideas on getting the print perfectly centered over the pocket.

we have lasers from the ceiling....then we do a print and line it up from there...so it is placed perfect each time...

Are the no-shirt detectors an M&R exclusive?  It's a great idea, sounds like it would relieve a lot of stress, especially on short runs.
