A new how-to video by Steven Jackson, sales and education representative, Imprintables Warehouse, was recently released. This 11-minute tutorial shows how to fix a graphic that was created for output on a printer/cutter, but was incorrectly set up. According to Jackson, this is a common mistake newcomers make when learning Coreldraw.

The design is comprised of a team name in block letters with a solid black oval underneath. The word “softball” was overlaid on top of the oval. The block lettering was originally created as an outline. The designer could not figure out how to put a cutline around the lettering.

In most graphics software an outline is a property of an object and not its own object. This can cause issues when setting up a cutline around the outline as it will place on the center of the outline rather than an outer edge. Jackson shows step by step how to convert the outline to an object, make necessary adjustments to individual letters for better cutting, and break the contour group apart so it will not cut as one piece.

Jackson shows three ways to fix this problem with comments on the pros and cons of each method.
