Transfers for Neck tag was/size labels

I need to do some transfers for custom Neck tag was/size labels (for a customers tee shirt line).


What is the best method for this...since half the order is on black tees with white type. The info is very VERY small. So what "transfer process" is the best to hold this little type to make sure the type does not flake or peel off later?


I'm looking at using Stahls for this.

check with Avery Denison. I would do a 2 color, white with some black outline. I think Stahls is only going to get you something solid, not just type

The small type will need a clear (or any color I suppose) backer.  In this case we would print white, then the backer (in house plastisol transfers here), then final gel.  When you flip it around and apply it the backer color is first down and holds the text together.  You could probably do it the other way around too or even sandwich the text between a clear and a backer layer. 

We haven't had to bust this out in awhile as I've found that adding small grind adhesive crystals to the ink itself can glue on a lot of small type and save a print color.  You'll need to use the lowest/most open possible mesh count that can hold the detail but that's always the case with transfers.

Reckon small type is a no-go for cad cut material but might be a win printed digitally onto clear thermal transfer material.

We direct print here; typically using 230 or 305. We have also used plastisol transfers in the past but, depending on the quantity, it can be too time consuming. When printing on black AND white tees in the same order, we generally use a grey ink such as CG7 or CG11.

We make transfers like Zoo, but without the clear; I like the idea though, will give it a shot on the next batch. Truth to be told though, they hold up very well without. For those, we use a 140 mesh, and powder them, send them down the dryer at top speed. We put all sizes S- XXXXL on a sheet that's 12 x 12 (the paper we get from Ace Transfer).

Perfect example of when to use transfers Steve.  We do this when we have multiple sizes/fabric content/point of origin and/or the client needs the tags applied on shorter runs of garments.  Do the big transfer run up front and yer good for up to a year if they can estimate their needs accurately. 

Like king, we also direct print when the qty is there or the garments have side seam tags with all the FTC info.  They fly off the gauntlet- sleeve platens, 225/40 mesh, sharp blade and one quick pass.

dan, call Dowling at 727 573 5997.. there are in Tampa area.. do a lot of this for big resort folks... they have low min and will do color change for you.. Ask for Henry or Drew.. they will get er done, very little freight.. lot of satisfaction

Private labels are interesting- it's just another imprint location that many in the clothing industry need but nobody will pay for it outright as such, you need to reduce the price somewhat (fair enough, they do go very quickly and easily) and present it in a different pricing matrix.  I do see where the penny pinching comes from on the buyers end but it winds up being kinda silly on the printer's end.

Anyone who's done their homework knows how important private labeling is if you genuinely are running a trademarked clothing brand.  In fact, no brand should ever let a product bearing their mark hit shelves without full branding- hang tags and labels at a minimum -just look at any 'ol brand in any store for evidence of this, it's not just marketing thought that's a part of it.  The USPTO is not giving out trademarks for a "t shirt design" currently, they are awarding marks for brands however.  You must constantly demonstrate that you are selling a brand, not just a design, to retain your marks.  Educate folks on this and the rest is in their hands to decide if they really are going for it or not.
