For the pro eyes... 6/24
« on: June 24, 2013, 01:48:14 PM »
Hi Everyone..

How many color do you see here? Or, rather, how would you print this?
I see white, hi light, some greys and other colors... Customer is trying for
'one color white' print. We are having a good laugh.  Thanks for the input.

John

I would do it with 3-4 screens depending on quality desired.

Very high detail on black shirts requires more screens imo.  Got to have 2 white screens there assuming quantity is high.

I think you're more of a pro than me John but, if this helps....

Mock up two Photoshop bitmaps for them- one at 45lpi (DC white through a 225/40) and one at 55lpi (DC white through a 305 or whatever your higher mesh is).  Pull back the opacity on both to simulate the finished DC White print and see if they are into it.  Be sure to use actual line screened images and explain to them how the simulation of a gradients occurs, etc.  You could absolutely print that with one screen and DC white but they may not actually want the look, just the costs savings.

If they don't care for that look, go tri or quad tone with this at a bare minimum.  If they seem picky and want it matched closely to the original I would go for six colors.

ugh, looking at that closer, the crest in the middle and a few details would have to go I think but still doable.

2 colors. Ubase and hi white. have Dan separate it and you'll probably need some sort of gray for ubase, but not really difficult with two screens.
Not really an option with one color only. DC maybe, but I doubt it.

Yes, we've won our share of awards, and yes, I've tested stuff and read the scientific papers, but ultimately take everything I say with more than just a grain of salt! So if you are looking for trouble, just do as I say or even better, do something I said years ago!

Agreed but if they're asking for a monochrome then better to give them a preview and see if they change their tune.  Def not ideal art for a monochrome print onto fabric.
