CONFESSIONAL:
« on: June 08, 2013, 01:29:04 PM »
I'm starting this confessional thread, maybe a way we can get screenprinter-ey things off our chests. I'll go first:

FORGIVE ME TSB, FOR I HAVE SINNED:

...Last week, I created a back design using mostly Comic Sans in the text. In my defense, I had to make it flow with the front print, which was designed by an outside source that featured that same font. Still, I feel really dirty about it.
...Now, today, I am forced in the same way to design around the Bleeding Cowboy font.

I will await your instructions for repentance. If anyone else want to confess here and let me know im not the only true a-hole on the board, that'd be great.
Thanks TSB gang!!

...Sean, Mr Tees!!!

Ok.  I'll confess as well.  I was once asked to create a whole TITLE and paragraph on a coffee mug using brush script.  Not that bad?    It was ALL CAPS.  :-X

I am the firs tto say, in a group of designers, I don't stand up well agaisnt good designers (when it comes to goor font usage).  THen there are certain rules.

As bad as all caps with Brush Script, is when it's on a steep curve, and as with other italicized fonts,  almost laying down on the right side.

I don't think this needs an explanation...

I could lie and say it is just for hoodies.

Hey, if a customer wants it, they get it.  Think of it like this...

You run a steak house...you are proud of the product you put out.  Your customers like it too.  Your steaks are damn fine just the way they are...but you get that one customer that always has to put ketchup on his ribeye.  Clearly this person either has a prostate problem and need more lycopene or they have no taste buds.  It's your job to provide a well made product, not to change a customers taste.

FYI, my dad puts ketchup on his steaks.

Yes, we've won our share of awards, and yes, I've tested stuff and read the scientific papers, but ultimately take everything I say with more than just a grain of salt! So if you are looking for trouble, just do as I say or even better, do something I said years ago!

Would those markers be for original art, touch up on shirts or are you just much happier when the pens are all open around you Pierre?   :)

I have repented and ordered some platen mask so the wb tack comes back out.

I'll admit I've busted out a Sharpie to "fill" a pinhole in black ink.

I keep a huge set around for digital transfer touch-up. Even with using a tape lint roller, void-causing dust bunnies or other foreign interlopers abound.

I'll  also use some blue painters tape as my "mini-spotting gun" to lift out enough wet ink from a fingermark to squeak by and avoid firing up the real one after the cure.

We all know most, almost all, of my art goes to printers that are to small to have their own art staff, or design staff, and most of their design ideas are from their customers and their design committees.. Throw in that a lot of my business comes from rural areas..  I to have sinned Mr. Tees, Serif Fonts, non Serif Fonts, Script, all caps (I didn't know that was wrong.. all in the same design.. of course if my wife does not proof read most have something misspelled..

Duct tape on squeegee handles  it cleans up quicker and mid run its faster to tape then wipe. I also use a wet dry vac to suck the spot gun cleaner through the shirt.
