Sampling discharge ink
« on: June 07, 2013, 02:30:21 PM »
So how do you all go about sampling/testing your discharge mix?

I have found that smearing with a spatula does not give accurate results. Seems the pigment really sits on top of the garment and generally appears much brighter and opaque than when printed. I have taken a manual frame with 150 mesh and burned a series of 2" square images on it. After I mix I take test shirt and strike of one of the 2" squares with a squeegee, I feel this better replicates white I get vs the smear technique.

Exactly as you do.  150 mesh screen and print a test swatch onto both the material to be printed and a white garment for comparison.
