so you didn't try the compressed air?
I have to say no. Not technically,  I blew in it "real hard". ...with my air brush gun. Prob not as strong as compressed air but probably should have done something if lint may have been blocking connection....I would think.

you know on my phone..i blew and everything..and it took a few shots of the compressed air..it didn't work the first couple shots...then it did...

whats in there is the cheetos you eat and its all over your face and fingers and when you go to plug it in the cheeto crumbs are in there...

Sounds funny, but I've heard plugging and unplugging the headphone jack a few time will do the trick.

Go to control panel>sounds and audio devices.
This is on XP, since I'm at the shop, but 7 has a similar menu.
Take a screengrab and post it.

Just plug your speakers in the headphone jack,,,, ??? ???

Well,  my speakers go in the jack and the head phones require a USB port.  I don't know Jack as to how to get them to work. Odd thing is, I can scratch the jack on the socket opening and hear the headphones giving the scratch sound. When I turn on a video, I can see the green light bouncing up and down....but no sound.

All drivers are updated. Re set the preferences.  I dono.

that scratch tells you that it works....its not the settings....now go get air from a air compressor...if you dont have it go to a gas station and use that air...thats what i had to do with my phone...

Um, not necessarily.
His speakers are likely powered, so shorting the input would cause scatchy noise.

Dan, you likely let your USB sound input take total control of your system's access to your soundcard ( onboard/outboard, doesn't matter )
and it's not recognizing that set of input/output jacks any more, it figures everything is through USB now.

It's a small matter to fix, if this is the case.

Do your headphones still work if you plug them in? If not, your sound card may have packed it in.

Chadwick, that sounds like it. No pun intended.

Now what?   I didn't get a chance to take a screen shot. Will try in am.

Sorry Dan, I got busy.
What does it show in the sound properties window.
Are there several devices?

These headphones you use plug into USB, they have a mic on them I imagine?
( that should show as USB audio device or something similar )
You also have a set of computer speakers you plug into the green plug on the audio jacks, yes?
( this should show as using your soundcard...realtec or AC97 audio, or something similar )

Whichever one has a green checkmark beside is your default, I'm guessing it's the USB.

( take a screenshot,eh  ;) )

But as Chadwick supposed, the USB headset is now checked as the active device. Have you tried clicking the Digital Audio choice above it?
That rug really tied the room together, did it not?

Exactly.
Use your 'safely unplug usb device' icon down on the right there. Click the headphone one, it'll say stopped, blah, blah.
Unplug your headphones, then open up that sound property window again.
See if it still shows the same.

* This may be a 'switch' you have to throw back, since you're using the USB.
The USB will 'take', but it may not switch back
I have a decent add-in soundcard, but if I want to use the dedicated front panel headphone and mic jacks,
I need to 'manually' switch the input/output on the control panel, as it has a different amp and such it uses for those plugs,
even though this is all on the same board.

If it doesn't switch, set your other one as default and you should have sound again.

Finally got it to work. The one I needed to run the speakers was hidden some how. I'm sure I did it by mistake. Hidden and turned off. So, after the latest post on here, I was able to poke inside a little more and see that some were hidden. reactivated them and BAM! sound. Didn't need to unplug the head set either. Both are in and can hear both by stitching.

Good stuff guys. Thanks a ton!
