Richmond Graphic Solarbeam Screenmaker SM 3000

THat`s what we have right now- a MSP3140. But ideally I would like to get something with a bit more power. Can`t afford a Tri light but I had a look at the Richmond Graphic Screenmaker Solarbeam SM 3000. A 3000 watt lamp.  Can anyone provide me with some feedback on those exposure units. Would that be a good upgrade on the MSP3140?

I'm a big fan of Richmond and have used the Screenmaker series with the 3k, 6k and 10k bulbs.

I highly recommend their light units as the Solarbeam bulb is a true pointed light source.

I am curious why you want more power than a MSP3140. I may be wrong but you have one automatic if I am correct. What are you trying to accomplish?

Are you selling the 3140? How much?

I'm not 100% but I think you can put a 10K bulb in that unit.  Ours originally came with a 7.5K and now we have a 10K.  I'm going to call Richmond today about a part for ours, is there anything you'd like me to ask them while I have them on the phone?  Besides if that unit could take a 10K bulb of course, I'll get that info for sure.

huh? we have the 3140 and are super happy with it. Why are you looking to switch?

I guess it depends on what type of Emulsion you are using. Almost all emulsions here are dual cure or diazo emulsions. If I want to use SBQ I will have to import it from the States which did last year as it was still cheap due to the exchange rate. But that has already changed so we have to look again at the first 2 options which brings us to LTUs of 250 and more. Well you don`t have to be a mathematician to work out how long that will take to burn a set of 6 screens. So it would be nice to get the LTUs down by having a unit with more KW.

I`m kind of curious about the distance of the lamp to the screen.

And let's not forget.. for the same size floor space, well a couple more inches.. the SM 3000 will burn two 23x31's.

We have a 4358 and an Amergraph that allows to burn 4 up on auto frames. Re-fit the Richmond with a new glass and blanket now doing the same on the Amergraph. When both are up and running we can expose/rinse about 100 screens and hour as needed. That happens usually in the morning and they are fairly idle the rest of the day by comparison. Amergraph is a good unit. Parts and service.....meh, C+
