« on: March 20, 2013, 07:57:11 PM »
Just saw this PMI Split tape video on their new facebook page. They went for the Ryan Moore approach and even used a Ryan Moore look alike. is the screen print world ready for such a dynamic duo?

i am just wondering why they are wasting so much of it...taping the bottom where there is no image...wow...they are spending a lot more than they have to...

because that way you will have to buy more..silly man.

I bet you could save at least $60 a year by not taping the bottoms. ;)

Yeah, I agree, a whole lot of tape being used for no reason. Wow. I understand busy and that level is a lot different but since they have the procedure down and the manpower save yourself a few thousand. That tape ain't cheap!

That tape ain't cheap!

I waved my PMI pom poms for a few years as it's a really good tape that goes on quick and comes off quick.
Then the owner and I sat down and he showed my how much it cost him the prior year to make trash.. cause in the end, screen tape goes in the trash and I was like wha what!!

We switched to a local tape supplier and got 3" rolls for under 3 bucks and cut cost by thousands.

Heres what we use. The wrinkles are not exactly cosmetic but won't affect anything. It's metal tape. Expensive but remember these are permanent sceens that are blocked out, post exposed, and hardened. They will make money over and over and over. When they finally wear out they are reclaimed

Gary, try rubber based adhesive tape that is slightly thicker than plain shipping tape. We are paying under $3 for a 110 yard roll and it is strong and comes of cleanly. We are getting it from a shipping supply store.

Yes, we've won our share of awards, and yes, I've tested stuff and read the scientific papers, but ultimately take everything I say with more than just a grain of salt! So if you are looking for trouble, just do as I say or even better, do something I said years ago!

metal tape is great, until it folds over on itself.  I love/hate that stuff.  It'll take of some arm hair that's for sure.

Psshh, he wasn't even CLOSE to annoying enough to qualify as a look-alike.   ;D

I think Brandon was talking about decent non-split tape.  I get 2" IPG 500 series local for a bit over two bucks a roll.  I use 2" PMI on the frames, and tape in towards the image with the cheap rubber base stuff.
I've spent enough hours picking off all the slivers of tape and cleaning the crap off frames, at ten or fifteen cents a frame for the PMI, seems foolish not to use it.

Hey, it actually is 3" tape, but not split tape. The guys and I as well like it better than 2" tape. Local guy and we get a ton of other stuff as well from him such as film. For us he will match or beat anyone's pricing and I would rather give my money to someone local even if that sounds silly in today's day and age.
