Windows 7 - Pinning a non-application shortcut to the taskbar
« on: February 26, 2013, 06:45:44 PM »
Can it be done? Am I just missing something obvious (to everyone else)?

In XP, I could drag any old shortcut I wished to the task bar. In 7, it seems not. The task bar is fussier, and only seems to allow programs.
That rug really tied the room together, did it not?

when you open the program, right click on it on the task bar and pin it. pretty easy . . .

Depending on the type of thing you're ko inking to, 7 might put it in the quick start menu when you drag it to the launch bar.Not iincredibly intuitive, but it works. I make shortcuts to specific folders in there.

Pierre, it's not a program, it's just a shortcut to a folder Programs work fine for me, just as in XP
Here's a pic showing what happens when I try to pin "Frog Jobs", a folder of, you guessed it, my jobs!

I suppose that it just adds an extra step by first having me open Windows Explorer (the icon that does pin) and then clicking Frog Jobs.

Integrity, it doesn't seem to want to go in the Quick Start either.

That's good stuff and apparently my question is a known issue.

You're right Frog, my method doesn't work!  I imaging Zelko's would though to trick it via .exe extension...stupid windows

Just did some research.

Windows removed the quick launch in Win7.

n its place they have whats called "Jump" Basically its pinning programs to your task bar, no different than quick launch except oit only allows programs.

But this may help, once you have a program like Corel pinned to the task bar you can then add to that programs jump list. Sadly only individual files that work with that program, not folders etc.

Leave it to Windows to always try to decide for us what we need and don't.
