extending lifetime of DCUB and DC
« on: February 21, 2013, 08:25:17 AM »
I am delighted to see how WB/DC has taken off so rapidly and take a small amount of pride that I have been but of a few people that have pioneered this process back from the days when there was absolutely no knowledge available (we cannot leave out the fact that this forum plaed a key role in spreading this information!) To be honest I can't think of any recent development in our industry that has had so much immediate impact. But wait.....its been around since way before most of us have been in business (or have been born)
In the late 80s/early 90s it was pretty much an industry secret where to even buy these products.
The inks were developed for rotary textile manufacturers who gobbled up the products in drums by the thousands. The ink mfrs couldn't give a hoot about us lowly tee-shirt folks and aspects like ink drying in the screen simply didn't apply to their products as the rotary screen is an enclosed application. Moreover we wanted to buy qts and gals and that was just laughable to them. But oh how times have changed.
Back on point. At the end of the day if you are left with activated DCUB and are reluctant to dispose of it try this. Cut it with fresh base/white by 50%. Reactivate in the am and you are good to go. This can be done with colors too but only to an experienced and well documented ink person/department.
Damn by the time PW April comes out most of you will be yawning.

That's some good info Tony. When you reactivate, would you activate just the 50% added or the whole batch?

We do this; but with DC white only. We typically only activate the newly added weight. No issues.
