So I was sent a quart of this stuff and did some (very) preliminary testing last night on a black Anvil 980.  I used a 30mm pvc card to smear a thin layer onto the shirt and quickly cured with a heat gun.  I also smeared a thin layer of matsui brite base with 6% activator (my standard discharge underbase, though I didnt add any printgen or fixer) and cured the same way.  I'll post pictures shortly.

Thoughts:
-the brite base cured to a slight off white/very light cream as usual.  This new stuff cured to a light coffee color, which unfortunately looks too dark to be used as an underbase (imo).  Better than the black though of course.
-the brite base smelled like crap as usual.  This stuff smells kind of like popcorn cooking when cured.
-consistency of the new stuff is very close to elmers glue, and seemed "stickier" than I am used to with the brite base.
-the ink deposit felt thicker and stiffer, though obviously smearing on with a pvc card isn't the ideal application process.

I am going to test a few other shirts and shirt colors through a 160 mesh 1/1 screen (my usual discharge underbase screen) out of the can, and I plan on testing an 80/20 mix with matsui brite white discharge as I usually would on problem colors, activated and not.  Also plan on pigmenting it and testing a few other random things like drying time on the screen and running a wash test.

I have to say, I like the smell and not needing to activate, and it is definitely discharging the shirt, just not very well compared to the matsui.  Definitely interested to hear other shops' results.

We're making all new DC swatch books and could test a few colors using the base and my PCs. If the colors shift due to the base than that would of course be an issue for us but not for others perhaps.

definitely share your results!

Out of curiosity, does anyone know what the chemistry is at play with this stuff?

Got to test this out today. I have to concur with mimosa on color, ink viscosity and hand of the print. We put it through 150S mesh onto a Gildan black shirt. For reference we have it side by side with a Gildan navy printed with 50/50 mixture Dwhite/Premium base, 3% activator. Over print is PMS 485.

That photo is almost identical to my results as far as the color variation.

it is hard to tell from the photos, would that red be acceptable? Could this be a good use for it?

I don't know that I would use the dbase/white 50/50 mixture for underbase and if it's less it is not as white. Too much white on top made our test prints flake after wash.

so if top white is required, could the new product be a viable option? Yes, no, maybe from the guys who got a chance to test it?

Yes, we've won our share of awards, and yes, I've tested stuff and read the scientific papers, but ultimately take everything I say with more than just a grain of salt! So if you are looking for trouble, just do as I say or even better, do something I said years ago!

I'll be doing some underbase testing tonight with top white, red, royal, and flo magenta using a few mesh counts.  My guess right now would be top white will be fine, Red is probably going to be fine, royal may not be, and flo magenta will not be acceptable.  This is just based off my limited testing last night and from past experiences with those inks, but the coffee color is pretty dark compared to a standard discharge underbase, and a thin top ink is not going to have much vibrancy as a result.

The red is unacceptable, imho. The 50/50 mixture is the only white.

I would like to mix the Simplexity base with a Simplexity white (if they are making it) to see how bright it is. If you could get an acceptable underbase that way, this ink is definitely the "Gamechanger".

Of course this sample print needs to be washed to see if it will soften up a bit.

Still wish I understood the chemistry.  No rotten egg smell and no activator is pretty awesome.

We tested some of it today. We had similar results as what's been posted already. We need to do more testing though. Am I reading that right above - someone is printing with plastisol on top of 50 base /50 D white??

Yes we do print a few jobs with the 50/50 mix.  Have not had any problems...yet. If anyone tries this, use as long of retention time in the dryer as possible. We have ten feet of heat on an electric M&R Radicure dryer running 700f @ belt speed 4, which is about 2 1/2 minutes retention time.

i made the mistake one time and ran some shirts with 80% white and 20% base...the print was insane, but the only thing that would keep the ink from flaking off was the heat press.  worked, although I won't do that again.

I haven't seen my sample yet.  I can't wait to try it out.

But what about price ?. If its 3.50$/kg than good for our market. Otherwise magna , cci and rutland  are best.

The sample softened up considerably after washing. The tannish color of the base seems to have lightened up a bit.

@ noortrd, See the quote below for the answer to your question...

What if...?

We were to offer...

A Discharge ink with the following characteristics...

No Activator (Pre-Activated)...

Unknown shelf life... 18 months so far...

Designed to print (and stay) on the surface of the shirt...

No need to wash before you wear...

No nasty smell coming from the dryer...

Available in formaldehyde or non-formaldehyde...

Priced in the same range, or lower than most discharge inks...

Thoughts...?
