Adding a PCI card to the PC
« on: February 15, 2013, 08:56:19 PM »
Need help with installation.
I installed this card tonight http://www.startech.com/Cards-Adapters/Serial-Cards-Adapters/2-Port-PCI-Express-RS232-Native-Serial-Adapter-Card-with-16550-UART~PEX2S553
Followed the directions to the dot and my computer is still not recognizing the card. I tried to force it to look for additional hardware and still not luck.
If someone could help, I would appreciate it. I need it to connect my embroidery machine to the PC.

Thanks

Try another slot.
That rug really tied the room together, did it not?

I have only one available slot. I tried to troubleshot the hardware and it said detection failure. But I can noit figure out how to make it to detect the card.

or another computer to try it on.

do you have any other expansion slots like a pci-express slot?  You would have to buy a different card, but that might save you as well.

If you have only one available because another card is in the other slot, try swapping them.
One of those mysteries I came across years ago is that some cards just didn't like some slots. Way less than an ideal situation, and fodder for Mac fan boys, but it is what it is.

I think this is the short pci-e short slot not the pci-e 16 which is for video cards and way longer in length.

It couldn't hurt to call or email StarTech and take advantage of their lifetime tech support.

Tried that last night, too late.

I guess I need to try on Monday, I just wanted to see if I could fix it over the weekend.
