How to print this....???
« on: February 04, 2013, 03:31:37 PM »
Ok not sure if this is in the right forum so admins please move if necessary.

So I got an email this morning from one of the sales people asking "how many colors is this and how can we reduce the colors to make it cheaper in price?" Well first off we only do spot printing and typically only do 2-3 color jobs and sometimes 4 color but never any process printing, so usually when I see something like this I tell the sales people that we can't do it.....

But I'm curious if there is a way to print this in a 2-3 color using spot printing.....????

That would be a minimum of 8 colors for us

4cp might be the way to go depending on the color of the garment and the number of print stations you have.

How's about some more details?

Also, how many shirts?

since we have a 10 color press, 8 would be it for us. I'd go sim or process with some extra color plates.

I don't know the details of the job, this is all they gave me. I don't even know shirt color. But when we have done this job in the past (different art) I think we usually do 100....I think.

Like I said above we don't do 4color or process printing, don't have the inks or the knowledge to do it....

Those that said 8-10, how would you separate that out? So for such a lame question, I still only work primary in Illustrator so something like this for me in next to impossible to figure out.....

is there no way to get this down to 2-3 color??

not and have it look good.

send it out to a separation service like dot-tone-dan...it will come back and you can print it...usually with little or no tweaks.

Just ran it thru Separation Studio to see what it would do and it's showing 9 colors but there's not much in the purple or green so I could drop it down to 7, but that's still crazy!!!

You can buy sublimation sheets printed out then just heat press on shirt, have to be poly but it's a cheap way to go

for a small qty, 4 color process would give you a pretty good image (on white shirt only). It could be further improved with a couple of spot colors, but then you are getting into sim process category that would look much better.

We would print this for less than $4 per shirt and make it look pretty good. And before anybody starts screaming bloody murder, that includes $$$ for the seps and still almost $300 per hour for the press time (it would take us about an hour start to finish. If in a hurry we could do it in less than 30 min).
