Can you recycle static frames?
« on: February 04, 2013, 04:51:56 AM »
I have 15 static frames that are in various conditions and wonder if they can be recycled (sold for scrap)?

Sure. You can send them out or Ramesh if you have a stretcher as well.

Unless you have a stretcher and the ability/time to remove the old glue your wasting your time. IMO better off just sending them out to be restreched or exchanged.

I send mine out to tubelite and they do them for half the cost of new ones.

A table, and an oversize re-tensionable frame on hinges with a hold down can do the job, but any significant volume would greatly benefit from a 4-up purpose built device.
That rug really tied the room together, did it not?

Yours are probably auto screens. Would that same set-up hold four manual screens?

Not sure on that. We use 23x31s for everything and 25x 36s for OS

depending on the size of your stretcher, you can make a jig to accommodate 2 or more frames; it would be a board for the stretcher bars to butt up to (to simulate the edge of a frame) and your frames would sit on top of that, put the mesh in the bars and stretch...

Steve

How much could 15 aluminum frames be worth as scrap metal? A couple of bucks? Learn to re-stretch, or send them to a service.
I made a mistake once; I thought I was wrong about something; I wasn't

we used to stretch, but unless you go through a lot of screens, it's cheaper to let somebody else do it...same thing as payroll in my book

Agreed.  You should check the methods of who you use.  Sometimes you get what you pay for.

I know, which is why we avoid xenon restretching.  Ouch, that HAD to sting.  I couldn't help it

I am getting out of the screen printing business and concentrating on the embroidery and dye sublimation and just contract out any screen printing.

Just want to get some cash out of it.
