Non Phthalate Spot Colors - Roll Call
« on: January 21, 2013, 02:27:59 PM »
I'm curious as to what's good out there in pre-mix colors.  Everyone has their preferences on a mix system and their white(s) of course but spots are sort of cross compatible and they get used a ton so price is a factor.

To me, and we can probably all agree on this, the best pre-mix set would be affordable (as in not a hundo+ per gallon...*cough..wilflex*), print WOW like a champ, have a companion low-bleed/high opacity option/set for when it's needed and have a good representation of spot colors without having too many options.

Consistency is crucial though or what's the point of using pre-mix?  May as well mix yer own if it's not the same ink in every bucket.

We currently use:

Plastisol - Wilflex Epic spots, shimmers, glitters and a few super opaques

WB- Sericol but could use some straight WB pre-mix spots for basic colors.

Not interested in hearing about anything that is not phthalate free but I think just about every mfg has moved on at this point right?

We added the Wilflex Epic MX non phthalate mixing system, which is made up of solid colors ready to print as they are, or combined by weight to create custom pantone matches. This system has been awesome, very easy, very fast, accurate, and hand is very soft from spot color printing, to simulated process we love it!!!

So you use the base colors as spots?  Used to kinda do that, mix by eye when we had the qcm rfus, but you still can't get all the spots you need that way.  You'll just be mixing every color at some point.

We have been using the STARtex from GSG.  I believe that it is a Wilflex base...not sure though.  We have been happy so far with the colors although a limited selection.  The price is decent too.

Now we just need to try the Miami white to see how it compares as we are still using Quick White for 90% of what we do.

Wilflex epic, and their mix system.
Pricey, but all work ag free.

No bleed issues. Use their base gray on real sketchy blends.

Now if I could just find a cupola pallets of it in a closed shop.......

It's actually pricey when bought how we did.we just went and ordered all the individual bukets instead of the "kit" we priced Ic, rutland, union, and qcm sytems and the wilflex had the best price
